Cristiano Ronaldo has said he "feels betrayed" by Manchester United.

In an interview with Piers Morgan published in The Sun newspaper, the 37-year-old forward said he feels he is being forced out of Manchester United, "Not only by the coach (Erik ten Hag) but also by two or three other people around the club".

He said: "I feel betrayed.

"Some people, I feel, don't want me here. Not just this year, but last year too."

Ronaldo also touched on his relationship with Ten Hag, adding: "I don't have respect for him because he doesn't show respect for me.

"If you don't have respect for me, I'm never gonna have respect for you."

He also spoke on Ralf Rangnick's time at the club, who was appointed interim manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure last season.

The German has had significant success as a director of football but had not managed a team for over two years before taking over at United in November last year, with Ronaldo commenting: "If you're not even a coach, how are you going to be the boss of Manchester United? I'd never even heard of him."

Ronaldo told United he wanted to leave this summer, should the club receive a suitable bid, but no satisfactory firm offers were made for the forward.

Very very sad situation, but this ill-advised (for both sides) move was always going to end in tears. It's not the club's fault no Champions League-qualified team wanted him in the summer. ETH looks to have treated him well. Staggeringly unprofessional behaviour from the player.

Surely he wouldn't burn his bridges like this without having something lined up, though?

He'd be much better off retiring IMO. He's nowhere near the player he once was and at this point, he's just damaging his legacy. What a shame.

Very Petulant.

He has to go and the sooner the better but I can't see a suitable exit. Who's going to pay his wages even if we let him go on a free?

This interview looks like his end game/get out card at Old Trafford.

It's common knowledge how Ten Hag plays the game and how Ronaldo cannot play that high intensity game anymore plus he can't accept the lesser role he would play. He should have moved to another club, but that was more difficult than he probably thought because of his wage demands and perhaps his behaviour scared some clubs off (Tuchel and Chelsea).

I don't think United fans would be hugely concerned if he didn't play for the club again.

Manchester United are exploring ways to terminate Cristiano Ronaldo's contract with the club.

Man Utd do not want to give Cristiano Ronaldo a pay-off to leave and given the will of both player and club to part ways, it is hoped a resolution can be reached soon; it is now clear there is "close to zero chance" Ronaldo will play for the club again... 👀

Man United and Ronaldo have come to an agreement to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

Both parties stated that Ronaldo's exit was "mutually agreed".

"The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford," said a Manchester United statement.

They wished "him and his family well for the future" and added "everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch".

Ronaldo, who scored 145 goals in 346 appearances for United, left Juventus to rejoin the Old Trafford club in August 2021 - 11 years after he left to join Real Madrid.

He had just over seven months remaining on his £500,000-a-week contract with United and his departure leaves him free to sign for another club when the transfer window opens in January.

"Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early," said a statement from Ronaldo.

"I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

"I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future."
