During EA Play Live 2021, EA and Motive announced sci-fi classic survival horror game, Dead Space, which will be returning as a remake completely rebuilt from the ground up.

The Dead Space remake is being developed exclusively for next-generation consoles and PC, with updated visuals, audio, and controls powered using the Frostbite engine.

With the remake, you can expect an improved story, characters, gameplay mechanics, and more while you are fighting to survive aboard the mining starship USG Ishimura.

In the game, you play Isaac, an engineer on a mission to repair a ship called the USG Ishimura. Upon coming on board, you discover the ship's crew has been slaughtered and infected with some sort of scourge. On top of that, his partner, Nicole, is lost somewhere on board.

Using only your tools and engineering skills, you will need to uncover the mystery of what happened on the Ishimura all the while dealing with horrid creatures and your own dwindling sanity.

"The Dead Space franchise made a huge impact on the survival horror genre when it was released 12 years ago, and I came to Motive as a fan first to specifically work on this game," said Phillippe Ducharme, senior producer.

"We have a passionate team at Motive who are approaching this remake as a love letter to the franchise. Going back to the original and having the opportunity to do so on next-gen consoles excited everyone on the team. As we look to modernize the game, we've reached out to dedicated fans and invited them to provide us with feedback since the early stages of production to deliver the Dead Space game they want and for new players to enjoy as well."

A release date for the Dead Space remake was not provided.

Well now, I didn't expect that!

Dead Space 2 is in my top 10 favourite games of all time. I actually played 2 before 1, and didn't have as good as an experience with 1 probably because of the unpolished controls and animations. The remake should take care of that hopefully!

Don't mind a remake. There's potential for it to be something special if they really expand on the original.
