I think this looks epic. Villeneuve might have cracked the impossible transition of Dune from book to film but we won't really know until we see it.

After two previous attempts, one novel and one TV miniseries, that suffered from "mixed reviews" (to be charitable), there's a lot riding here. The David Lynch version from 1984, which I saw in the theatre not long after reading the original Frank Herbert novels, is probably my least favorite Lynch movie. I am generally a fan of the man, but Dune was a mismatch for him. A muddled, overwrought mess would be an understatement.

As for this one, the trailer is amazing. I love how they saved the sandworm until the very end, and then gave it an epic reveal. It all looks good but a great trailer does not a great movie make.

So, no Sting in this one then?

I am enthusiastic about the trailer, and I am hopeful about Chalamet from what I've seen after initially having doubts.

Interesting that he used the word "crusade" where the books would have used "jihad". I wonder if they've toned down the Arabian analogues among the Fremen seeing as that's all gotten harder to navigate since the book was written.

That trailer is everything I'd hoped for, and nothing I'd feared :D

I'm a very happy Dune fan right now!!!

I was wondering how they would do the sandworms and wasn't disappointed! from the shaking of the sand and then the final shot definitely did the huge size of those justice.

It's been many years since I read the books but I did love them. I didn't see them as Sci-Fi but I don't know really. The political and religious goings-on within important families and how their lives intertwined with such things. The film didn't hit that note for me and that's probably due to its limitations as a medium.

I did like it but certainly didn't love it. Timothee Chalamet was a poor Paul. I got no sense of his character and his struggle. Liet Kynes was an unnecessary gender change. Ferguson was brilliant and the only one that showed depth.

The world itself was in keeping with how I imagined it to be. Massive and empty. Even Caladan felt barren even though it was green. The Harkonnens gave me the heebie-jeebies just like in the books.

I've seen most of Villeneuve's films and liked them all. They do share a sort of emptiness though. They look great but I think the characters need to be very capable in order to lift the film and create more emotion. I loved Arrival because of how Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner portrayed the pain and their connection with each other.

Disappointed.

The sound and visuals are incredible. As good as it gets.

The movie itself is a total snoozefest though.

Saw this last night, never read the book or seen any of the other versions.

It looked and sounded great but was lost in the plot and also lost interest after an hour
