Just checked yesterday's usage. I spent £4.08 on gas and £2.48 on electric but I dont think that includes the standing charges. This is higher than my average of £3.30 gas and £1.90 electricity - prices must be up because we didn't do anything unusual yesterday.

I have mine on timer to turn off between about 7am and 3pm, unless the temperature drops below 16. If we're in we can override it.

It's cost between £3.70-£4.40 the last few days, including the standing charge. Luckily the house is well insulated as it's new.

Today is at £4.65 so far - a new record for the year. 😂

Combined gas and leccy for today was at £3.98 before the display shutdown (10pm).

Been no washing machine or dryer today and we ate out so a bit lower than normal.

The price cap is being reduced for gas and electricity, hence they are being "forced" to drop the price. Its not out of the kindness of their hearts.

The worst thing that has happened over the last few years is the big six competition being eliminated. Now they can happily just sit charging the max price cap they can legally get away with, without a worry in the world. It's Ofgem who need looking at now.

OFGEM have needed looking at for a while. They presided over failed business models, which in turn forced up the price as the standing charge was increased to payback the losses

What would you do?

Fix or not for 12 months?

Octopus Energy

Energy bills are coming down: overall, our April prices will be around £238 cheaper per year for a typical home.

If you'd like to protect your rates from future changes, we're offering a 12 month fixed tariff available now at April prices, with no exit fees.

Too early for fixing I'd have thought but that's purely my guess as Christ knows what state the world will be in over the next 12 months.

Edit: I just noticed the "no exit fees" bit, so maybe?
