Extended School Days General Chat

I was going to post this in the parenting group bug it will probably get a better response/debate here.

What is your thoughts on the government giving childrens extended school days by half hour? I don't think half hour is enough to catch up on 2 years of education.

I agree. I don't think that'll make much difference and they have then got homework to do. Glad I'm not a school kid.

Good idea but I also think shortening the summer break from 6 to 4 weeks would help

I agree they should have a longer day or fewer holidays. Difficult really as a lot of time has been lost for them.

I think that if any little time will help kids then they should at least give it a go . On a Friday kids get half day here so even if they got rid of that to help catch up

Not all students have missed out or are falling behind. Many who engaged with their lessons/teachers over the lockdowns are doing just fine.

Those that did very little school work in the lockdowns did miss out and are falling behind. Some because of lack of devices/connection but many because there was no one there to ensure they did the work. Many because parents had to work so couldn't supervise, some because they and their parents don't value learning and/or couldn't be bothered.

It is a complex issue and providing an extra half hour a day will not solve the problem for those who really need it.
