The anticipation for the next installment of the Forza Horizon series is building, particularly with the recent reveal that it will be set in Japan. This was initially leaked through a now-removed Instagram advertisement, which hinted at a fresh direction for the franchise. The ad stated, "The Horizon Festival is heading to Japan," and it appears Microsoft is preparing for an official announcement at the Tokyo Game Show 2025.

Following the success of Forza Horizon 5, which was praised for its immersive environments, the shift to Japan promises to introduce players to a new cultural backdrop and stunning landscapes. Previous entries have explored locations such as Australia and a stylised version of the UK, so this new setting could provide a unique twist on the racing experience.

However, it's worth noting that the Forza franchise has faced challenges recently, particularly due to significant layoffs at Turn 10 Studios, the team behind Forza Motorsport. This has raised concerns about the future of the series, but Microsoft has assured fans of continued support for all existing titles while focusing on new developments.

As we look forward to the launch in 2026, it will be interesting to see how the team incorporates Japan's rich automotive culture and diverse geography into the gameplay. Moreover, as Microsoft prepares to navigate various controversies at TGS, including calls for ethical business practices, the gaming community will be watching closely.

The game has officially gone gold, which means it's all set for release, and we've got some juicy details about its performance on Xbox Series X and S.

Resolution and Frame Rate Breakdown
So, here's what we know:

Xbox Series X: We now know that Forza Horizon 6's Quality Mode will run at a native 4K resolution at 30FPS on Xbox Series X, or you can switch to Performance Mode at a target of 4K, but with dynamic scaling to ensure it always remains at 60FPS.

"On Xbox Series X, the Quality mode runs in native 4K resolution at 30fps with increased visual fidelity, while the Performance mode targets 4K resolution, scaling dynamically to maintain a smooth 60fps."

Xbox Series S: The Xbox Series S version of Forza Horizon 6 will also contain Quality and Performance modes, with Quality running at 1440p, 30FPS, and Performance at 1080p, 60FPS. Both of these will feature dynamic resolution scaling in order to retain the desired frame rates.

"Meanwhile, Xbox Series S players can enjoy Japan in 1440p at 30fps with Quality mode, and 1080p at 60fps in Performance mode – with both options dynamically scaling the output resolution to maintain their targeted framerate."

It's interesting to see how the developers have optimised the game for both consoles, ensuring that everyone can have fun regardless of which version they own.

Playground Games has unveiled the launch trailer.

The trailer features the atmospheric track "Enchanting Stranger" by Milk Talk, which we first heard during the Prologue gameplay reveal. The music perfectly complements the stunning visuals of the game, highlighting the breathtaking Japanese landscape that players will get to explore.

The trailer showcases a mix of thrilling drifts and high-speed racing, set against the backdrop of Japan's gorgeous scenery. Here are a few highlights:
  • Diverse environments, from bustling city streets to serene countryside
  • A variety of cars, including some fan-favourites and new additions
  • Dynamic weather effects that change the racing experience
The attention to detail in both the cars and the environments is simply jaw-dropping. It looks like they've really gone all out to create a vibrant world that players can dive into.

Oh wow, have you had a chance to dive into Forza Horizon 6 yet?

Let's be honest, many of us expected this to be more of a rehash of FH5, but Playground Games has really upped its game. They've taken what we loved from the previous title and added layers of depth that make it feel fresh and exciting. It's not just the scenery that's stunning; the attention to detail in the cars and environments is impressive too.

Driving through the varied landscapes, from bustling cities to serene countryside, is nothing short of exhilarating. You can really lose track of time just exploring every nook and cranny, finding hidden gems along the way. The world feels so rich, and every corner you turn offers something new to discover.

Here are a few highlights that, in my opinion, make FH6 stand out:
  • Enhanced graphics that truly capture the essence of Japan
  • A wider variety of cars, catering to all kinds of players
  • New gameplay mechanics that add to the fun and challenge
  • Events and races that are more engaging than ever before

Played about 4 hours today, love it so far.

The map is class, online was good, really enjoyed that eliminator mode.

Definitely see myself progressing through the "Discover Japan" route over the "Horizon events" route, the map is so nice to drive around and explore.
