- Did you know that carrots were originally purple? It's true! They were bred to be orange in the 1600s to honour the House of Orange in the Netherlands.
- The tin can was invented in 1810, but people had to wait almost 50 years for the first can opener. Imagine using chisels and bayonets to open your food!
- Ketchup actually started as a fermented fish sauce in China, known as "ke-tsiap". It wasn't until the 1830s that tomatoes were added, making it the condiment we know today.
