Halo Infinite's launch sets new expectations for the franchise.
8/10 Mixed views

The post offers a good overview of the Halo Infinite presentation, providing essential details about gameplay and release platforms. However, a bit more depth on specific features or personal insights would enhance its value.

Halo Infinite gameplay presentation release date multiplayer beta third-person mode

The first discussions centered around the anticipation for Halo Infinite, sparked by a gameplay presentation that showcased what the game might offer. However, there were mixed feelings regarding the visuals and the announcement of its delay, causing some concern about the game's development and future expectations.12

As more details emerged, including the confirmed release date and features like the battle pass system, excitement began to build again. Players expressed their views on the multiplayer aspect, with emphasis on the game's potential to integrate classic Halo elements.34

Post-launch, user experiences varied greatly. While some players found the game excellent and engaging, particularly praising gameplay mechanics like the grapple hook, others raised concerns about the absence of co-op matchmaking and the introduction of a third-person mode, indicating a significant departure from traditional gameplay.56

"...it was well done. I've only gotten as far as liberating the first FOB..."

"...the new mode will not feature any online matchmaking..."

Verdict

The thread reflects a shift from initial skepticism to enthusiasm post-launch, though concerns about gameplay mechanics persist. Overall, players are eager yet cautious about Halo Infinite's evolving nature.

Microsoft and 343 have finally shown us what Halo Infinite looks like in a new, ten minute gameplay presentation.

Microsoft has something to prove next-gen and Halo Infinite could be the game to showcase what Xbox is capable of. Check it out in the gameplay video below:

The trailer takes place over 160 days after humanity lost the war. We see Master Chief crashland on a Halo ring with the pilot we saw in the initial reveal trailer. He's having a bad day and he's not very happy with the Chief, who wants to stop the Banished. You can wishlist it now, since Halo Infinite just got a Steam store page.

Rumours earlier this week suggested Halo Infinite would feature grappling hooks, sprinting, and other power-ups. The new trailer, which shows a more open Halo, confirms those rumours.

Halo Infinite is releasing for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and PC this holiday.

Only played the first mission but it is already my favourite Halo game.

I thought that the intro cutscene where chief goes through the floating debris was fantastic, little details like how he shoves some debris out of the way forcefully, yet moves the corpse of a dead marine with surprising gentleness, it was well done.

I've only gotten as far as liberating the first FOB, but there's definitely an attempt to invoke Combat Evolved, which saw you starting on a similar maze like ship before finally getting to the ring. I think they were trying to maximise the impact that your first viewing of the ring would have.

I'm playing on heroic difficulty, and its manageable enough so far, as long as you don't charge in with total reckless abandon.

Tom

Having great fun with it so far, though I am possibly regretting playing on legendary now that I've gotten to the open-world part as it fairly limits how gung ho you can be.

The grapple hook is fantastic fun to use.

Halo Infinite's co-op campaign has been eagerly anticipated for a while now, with the beta arriving just last week, but to the dismay of many fans, the new mode will not feature any online matchmaking. This will also persist even after the mode leaves beta, meaning players must recruit friends of their own to play alongside.

This campaign update is currently in beta for Xbox Insiders. The full update, which includes online co-op and split-screen play, is set to fully launch in August of this year.

Online co-op play does not extend to online matchmaking, however, meaning that if you're trying to play co-op online, you'll need to recruit friends to play with yourself.

Xbox addressed the concerns in talk with GamesRadar: "Online matchmaking will not be available with final co-op. We encourage you to continue to use the Halo LFG and the new Discord voice call feature on Xbox to find players to party up with as you continue playing the beta."

This comes as quite the shock to many, with campaign co-op having been a core component of many Halo games before it. If you're looking to blast through the campaign with an ally, you're going to need to recruit friends of your own or find them via the Discord, which might not be the quick, seamless, multiplayer experience you may have hoped for.

343 Industries has announced that a third-person mode is officially coming to Halo Infinite next month, marking a significant shift for the game and its long-standing association with first-person shooters.

In a tweet from the official Halo account, the studio teased the new mode, saying, "Experience a new way to play! 3rd Person Mode is coming to Halo Infinite this November."

The announcement was accompanied by a minute-long gameplay video showcasing third-person mode in action, offering fans a glimpse of how the game will look and feel from this new perspective.

343 Industries has kept the announcement light on specific details, leaving many questions unanswered. From the language used in the tweet and the footage shown, the third-person mode will likely be available in at least one separate game mode, allowing players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives. The gameplay video shows what appears to be a toggle that will enable players to switch between views, but it remains to be seen which specific game modes will feature this functionality. Whether it will be available in multiplayer, campaign, or both is still up for speculation.
This marks the first time in the Halo franchise's 23-year history that an official third-person mode will be available. In previous games, players have only experienced third-person views while operating turrets, driving vehicles, or using specific equipment in the campaign. Introducing this new gameplay perspective could open Halo Infinite to a broader audience or offer a fresh experience to long-time fans. Still, it remains to be seen how the wider community will react once the mode is live next month. For now, anticipation is high, and the release of third-person mode in November will undoubtedly be a significant moment in the ongoing evolution of Halo Infinite.
