It really is literally and figuratively the end of an era.

The Queen's generation represents the last of a long line who shaped Britain with values of stoicism, selflessness, faith, family and sacrifice which she personally embodied.

It will be a terribly sad day when she passes.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died.

Buckingham Palace says in a statement: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow"

Expected all day but still gutted.

I'm a long way from being a royalist but what a marvellous servant to the country she has been. I feel really quite sad and I daresay I had to take a moment when the national anthem was played.

Her reign spanned 70 years and helped to spread unity and humility throughout Britain and the wider commonwealth. One of the greatest monarch the world will ever see.

A remarkable women who lived with such integrity, loyalty and warmth.

Deeply saddened to hear this. I honestly didn't think it would hit me as hard as it did.

I suppose anyone under the age of 75 will have never known anything other than the Queen, a truly amazing woman who dedicated her life to her Country.

There will never be another Monarch who will come close to her.

Sad news. I am not a monarchist, but I always liked and respected her. She had a great sense of humour and held the line through some national and personal troubles. It's difficult to think she is gone. Seems so strange.

As I said earlier, I'm not a royalist but at the same time they don't bother me on the whole, they have no effect on my life in either a positive or negative way.

But the Queen was a wonderful person. I'm in my 30s and she's all I've ever known. She was a lady who never once shirked her duty. She lead a life of great privilege but used that life to constantly work for her country. She made the entire world view our country more favourably than they might otherwise have done.

A rock who has always been there, who's remained true and constant throughout all sorts of turmoil and difficult times. A sad day indeed.
