Streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, AppleTV, Paramount+, Amazon Prime, and others have drastically transformed how people consume television and film. With massive libraries of on-demand content, fewer ads, and flexible viewing schedules, it's no surprise many are moving away from traditional TV.

A few key talking points often come up in this ongoing shift:
  • Content Abundance: While streaming services offer a vast range of shows and films, some argue the sheer volume leads to choice fatigue and inconsistent quality. Others appreciate the ability to always find something to suit their tastes.
  • Ad-Free Experience: One of the biggest appeals of streaming is the reduced presence of advertisements - especially compared to lengthy commercial breaks on traditional TV.
  • On-Demand Flexibility: Streaming allows viewers to watch what they want, when they want, making it easier to fit entertainment around busy lifestyles.
  • Decline of Traditional TV: As streaming becomes more dominant, traditional cable services appear to be losing relevance, especially among younger audiences.
Where do you stand on the shift from traditional TV to streaming? Do you still use traditional TV for anything, like live sports or news, or have you gone fully digital? Which platforms do you use, and what keeps you subscribed?

Totally agree on the ad thing. I tried watching something on regular TV last week and forgot how unbearable the breaks are. Spoiled by streaming now but even streaming services are introducing ads.

I still have satellite, but it is mostly for live sports. Streaming hasn't fully caught up there in terms of reliability and real-time coverage.

Ditched Sky TV about 2 years ago, using Freeview now along with Netflix and Disney+, keeps me plenty entertained. Also, shoutout to Apple TV+ - some really underrated shows there.

I think there's too much content now. Half of it feels like filler. I miss the days when there were fewer shows but better quality control.

That's true, but I like having the option to explore random documentaries or niche dramas I'd never see on satellite or Freeview
