Sony and Nintendo Adjusting to RAM Price Hikes General Gaming

Recent rumours indicate that the release of Sony's PS6 could be delayed until 2028 or even 2029, primarily due to ongoing shortages and rising prices in RAM, which have affected both Sony and Nintendo. According to a Bloomberg report, these companies are closely monitoring the volatile memory market, which could significantly alter their hardware release strategies.

Sony's potential delay would mark a departure from their original 2027 launch plans. Notably, the PS6 is rumoured to feature substantial specs, including 30 GB of GDDR7 RAM. This ambitious design could be heavily impacted by current RAM prices, which might lead to a shift in Sony's approach to maintaining user engagement and market presence.

On the other hand, Nintendo may also consider raising the price of the upcoming Switch 2 in light of the same RAM shortages. Company president Shuntaro Furukawa has acknowledged the need to keep an eye on memory prices and other international factors such as trade tariffs. Although Nintendo has not yet experienced memory shortages, the possibility for price adjustments remains.

Both companies are navigating a challenging landscape, where the cost and availability of components directly influence their production and pricing strategies. This situation underscores the broader implications of the current chip crisis affecting the gaming industry, with even companies like Valve facing delays due to similar issues.
