Mistfall Hunter sets itself apart by softening the genre's usual harsh edges, ensuring that even when players face setbacks, they still contribute to long-term progression.

At first, the game feels quite approachable, but as you delve deeper into its gloomy atmosphere, a different kind of challenge arises. Progression can become increasingly complex with overlapping systems, and solo players may find themselves nudged toward group play. Interestingly, the loot you earn often doesn't feel rewarding enough to justify the risks you take. Ironically, as you progress, the risk involved seems to lessen, but we'll explore that further in a bit.

Despite these quirks, Mistfall Hunter remains an enjoyable extraction RPG. While it does strip away some of the traditional frustrations of the genre, this change may not enhance the overall experience as much as the developers intended.

The Withered Knight offers mobility at the cost of raw damage, rewarding players who can maintain frontline pressure. If speed is your game, the Shadowstrix excels with its focus on subterfuge and burst damage. The Sorcerer unleashes devastating area-of-effect magic, while the Blackarrow class provides a medium-to-long-range option for skilled players. Lastly, the Seer class is more suited for group expeditions, as it can feel underwhelming in solo missions.

Each class comes equipped with a two-weapon loadout and unique skills, with talent trees that allow players to unlock and enhance their abilities. Additionally, players can mix and match attachable gems and pre-journey tonics to further customise their builds, offering a wide array of resistant, restorative, and passive effects. For example, the Shadowstrix can be tailored into a relentless attacker by selecting shorter cooldowns and reduced stamina usage.

This extensive customisation not only encourages creativity but also presents a variety of challenges to face in battle. As a result, PvP skirmishes can become surprisingly drawn out. One of the common frustrations in extraction games is getting shot from a distance before you even have a chance to react. Mistfall Hunter attempts to mitigate this by providing a more engaging combat experience.

Mistfall Hunter offers a fresh perspective on the extraction genre with its unique combat mechanics and class systems. While it has its flaws, it remains a fun and engaging experience for players looking to explore a different take on the genre.
