No Man's Sky
Inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man's Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action.

In No Man's Sky, every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you'll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before - and perhaps never will again.

Embark on an epic voyage At the centre of the galaxy lies a irresistible pulse which draws you on a journey towards it to learn the true nature of the cosmos. But, facing hostile creatures and fierce pirates, you'll know that death comes at a cost, and survival will be down to the choices you make over how you upgrade your ship, your weapon and suit. Find your own destiny Your voyage through No Man's Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry. Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you'll reap huge rewards. Or perhaps an explorer?

Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary. Share your journey The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own...

Hello Games' sci-fi exploration sim just got another update, and this one isn't as peaceful as some of the previous free content. The latest addition to No Man's Sky is called Desolation, and it lends a decidedly Dead Space flavour to your outer-space adventures.

According to the announcement from Hello Games, Desolation has players exploring haunted, derelict freighters. The freighters are atmospheric, procedurally generated spaces populated by rogue A.I. and hostile aliens. However, if you brave the dangers, you can find valuable salvage. Get a taste of the action from the trailer above.

Desolation also includes less scary tweaks, like new visual effects, customization opportunities, and balance changes. You can see them all for yourself right away; the Desolation update is available now for No Man's Sky on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The latest update for No Man's Sky is dubbed the Worlds Update Part One, and it looks like a pretty big one, even if as you can glean from its name, there's more to come in the future. For now, you can look forward to some hugely-revamped planet biome tech that should make things extra immersive, and a new expedition involving a flamethrower-packing mech suit.

This latest update follows the bunch Hello Games has already deployed so far this year, including the Omega update, the Orbital update which finally brought us ship customisation, and the Adrift update.

As outlined in the patch notes for it and the trailer below, Worlds Part One comes with a big focus on making planet biomes feel more immersive, thanks to some new technology Hello has developed while working on Light No Fire, and is now feeding back into NMS.

From revamped water that allows for waves and reflections — and can now be landed on by ships — to improved clouds and volumetic weather effects that can wrap "rolling fog, rain, blizzards, [and] lava sparks" into the existing wind and cloud setups, making things feel more tactile and genuine is the big aim here.

"Sometimes a storm hits, and you see the waves rise and the clouds gather. The new wind, the clouds, the oceans, the atmospherics all hit together and it feels like nothing else," Hello founder Sean Murray says in a deep-dive video about the update. "Across these new biomes, we've added new creatures to discover," he adds, "We are pushing the level of variety that's possible even further. It's not enough to just add more, we want to do things that people haven't seen before. And of course, these new creatures can all be pets and mounts."

Alongside these additions is a new expedition, with Murray revealing: "We've made something very Starship Troopers inspired with this one, it's really different and it takes you on a tour of some of these cool new planets. Everyone is battling against bugs together, and progress is community driven. There's a new mech with heavy armour and a cool flamethrower arm. And you are going to need it!"

No Man's Sky Update 5.10 patch notes bring fishing & watercraft to the game

The newest free update has come to No Man's Sky, this time bringing fishing and other aquatic ventures with it. Update 5.10, aptly nicknamed the Aquarius Update, puts fishing systems front and center with new equipment, new creatures to find, and new vehicles to help you enjoy the hobby to the fullest at your ideal water holes. There's plenty more as well, making this another jam-packed update.

Hello Games rolled out No Man's Sky Update 5.10 and its accompanying patch notes on all systems this week, inviting players into its new fishing systems. Players can now craft fishing rods, as well as fishing skiffs, to go out on the water ways of any given planet and cast their line for a relaxing time and a shot at capturing new aquatic critters. Underwater exploration has also taken a boost. Players can craft a new dive suit, a deep-water jetpack, and even engage in new fishing expeditions to get the most out of the new system's launch. Check out the full notes below for more details:

5.10 Patch Notes
  • Players can now install a Fishing Rig in their Multi-Tool, enabling them to cast their line into any body of water and begin fishing. Purchase Fishing Rig blueprints aboard the Space Anomaly.
  • Over 160 varieties of fish are available to catch. Finding each fish will require exploration of different planets, fishing at different times of day and during different weather conditions, and trawling across a wide range of depths.
  • Your catch history, including weight records, is recorded in the new Fishing section of the Wonders catalogue.
  • Craft specialist bait and apply it to your Fishing Rig to lure in specific fish.
  • In addition, any edible item can be deployed as bait. Experiment with different cooked products to find the most effective bait for your fishing feeds.
  • A large range of new seafood recipes have been added for the Nutrient Processor.
  • Those who do not wish to consume or sell their catch may release their fish back into the water.
  • Occasionally, inanimate objects may be retrieved from the water instead of fish. Such objects include procedurally generated messages in bottles and water-damaged technology upgrades.
  • Automated Traps are available to research in the Space Anomaly. These self-sustaining units are an alternative to manual angling, and will attract fish as appropriate for the water conditions in which they are placed.
  • The Exo-Skiff is a new piece of deployable technology, summoned from the Quick Menu after its interface is installed in the Exosuit. Research the appropriate blueprints aboard the Space Anomaly.
  • The Exo-Skiff hovers just above the surface of the water and reacts to wave movement to create the perfect deep-sea fishing platform for those looking for deep-water fish.
  • The skiff comes with a dedicated Cold Storage inventory, allowing players to conveniently store their catches.
  • The Exo-Skiff can be recoloured via its own internal customisation interface.
  • Fishing is fully compatible with first and third person play, and has unique casting mechanics for VR players.

Hello Games has released the "The Cursed" (version 5.2) expedition update for No Man's Sky.

Here is an overview of the update, via its official website:

Today, we are announcing expedition sixteen: The Cursed—where players will fight to keep a grip on reality while haunted by visions and voices from another dimension.

The Cursed takes place in a sort of twilight realm, straddling the boundary between one reality and the next.

Travellers will not have access to hyperdrive technology, meaning no warping between star systems. Instead, interstellar travel can only take place via the ancient portal network.

Haunting voices, leaking through from another dimension, will provide guidance, information, strange blueprints… and mystery. It is up to you to decide who these voices belong to, where they are coming from, and if they are to be trusted.

In regular No Man's Sky play, Travellers must steel themselves against a variety of environmental hazards such as extreme temperatures, radioactivity, and toxic atmospheres. The Cursed, however, pits you against a single, more insidious threat: the weakening of the boundaries of reality. Your exosuit comes fitted with a specialised Anomaly Suppressor; maintain it to stay firmly in this reality.

Spectral anomalies—ghostly creatures drifting across the boundaries—will gather to watch Travellers moving through their domain. Most of the time, they are simply there to observe, but be warned: as your suit's Anomaly Suppressor weakens, time will begin to behave in non-linear ways, and these anomalies may turn hostile.

Travellers will need to prepare a number of otherworldly concoctions to navigate through The Cursed. Sustain boundary strength with the Elixir of Glass, reveal the location of portals with the Elixir of Quicksilver, and prise open the gateways with the Elixir of Blood. For those that reach the end of the journey, its final trial will require a drink from the Elixir of Water—and the consequences thereafter.

The Cursed expedition begins today, and will run for approximately two weeks. Travel beyond the boundaries, and fortify your mind against spectral anomalies—or succumb to the call of the world of glass.

■ The Cursed Expedition Rewards

Boundary Anomaly, Portal Breach and Glyph Posters

Remember your journey across the boundaries with these decorative posters: warnings to all those who would venture into the tunnels of the portal network.

Anomaly Seal Base Part

During The Cursed, the spectral energy radiating from this ancient artifact protects nearby entities against catastrophic reality breaches.

In a more stable universe, the Anomaly Seal serves as a decorative souvenir from beyond the boundaries.

Ink-Stained Jetpack Trail

An exclusive jetpack customisation. A localised anomaly within the jetpack's core allows the spectral afterglow of the boundary horrors to leak across into this reality.

Boundary Horror Mandibles

An exclusive Exosuit Appearance Override. Transform your facade into that of a Boundary Horror, a fragment of what dwells beyond the tunnels of the portal network…

Bioluminescent Companion

The egg of a gelatinous and luminescent lifeform. This unusual companion creature is lit by a haunting pale glow.

Boundary Herald Starship

Retrieve this exclusive starship from the reality collapse, and slice through the skies in UFO-like style.

Community Research

The Quicksilver Synthesis Companion's latest research endeavour is a set of Blue, Purple and Teal fireworks, which burst into a cluster of bursts into a cluster of wildly spiralling ribbons upon launch. Every mission completed at the Nexus contributes towards the research progress for these exotic items.

Corvette-class Starships

    • Added a new class of starship, the Corvette. Corvettes are large, fully bespoke ships with furnished interiors, capable of accommodating multiple passengers.
    • A lightweight tutorial for assembling your first Corvette will activate upon first collecting a Corvette module or interacting with the Corvette Workshop.
    • A large catalogue of snappable structural and decorative modules is available for Corvette assembly, including habitation modules, hulls, wings, engines, windows, accessways, weapons, reactors, shield generators, connectors and decorative peripherals.
    • Corvette modules can be unearthed from salvage containers buried on worlds across the universe, as well as discovered in Derelict Freighters.
    • Modules can also sometimes be retrieved from defeated pirates, freighter cargo pods, crashed freighter crates, frigate expeditions, or received as rewards for completing missions.
    • Structural Corvette modules are collected individually in the inventory and spent directly when assembling a Corvette.
    • While standing within a Corvette, specialised furnishings and a selection of base decorations can be installed in the ship's interior.
Internal modules can be installed without limitation, but require resources to construct.

  • Habitation modules ("habs") form the main living area for Corvette-class starships. Habs are available in three distinct classes: Titan, Thunderbird, and Ambassador, each with its own sci-fi aesthetic. Installed furnishings reflect the style of their hab, and multiple habs placed adjacently are automatically linked with doorways.
  • Multi-storey Corvettes can be assembled with the installation of internal stairways.
  • Several installable Corvette modules have practical functionality, such as the Living Wall, Nutrition Unit, Refiner Unit and Mission Radar.
  • A number of Corvette modules are linked to technology upgrades, automatically improving the Corvette's stats alongside its appearance.
  • Corvette Workshop terminals can be found aboard the Space Station. These terminals provide an interface through which collected Corvette modules can be assembled into a pilotable, habitable starship.
  • The terminal also provides access to a shop for purchasing basic Corvette modules, and a barter interface for trading advanced Corvette modules.
  • The Corvette Workshop can store a draft Corvette, allowing work-in-progress edits to be saved and returned to at a later time.
  • A nearby cache will collect any overflow of refunded Corvette modules if there are too many to store in the player's inventory.
  • The Corvette benefits from an especially powerful pulse drive, which moves faster than single-occupancy ships.
  • Corvettes can autopilot to space stations, discovered planets, and mission destinations.
  • Corvettes can also be set to autopilot along the current flightpath.
  • Corvette accessways are accompanied by a specialised teleporter, allowing the ship to hover above especially mountainous or difficult terrain, while passengers beam themselves to and from the planetary surface.
  • Added support for multiple physics worlds, enabling players to travel stably and walk on foot around fast-moving Corvettes.
  • Spacewalking is now a fully supported mode of navigation, allowing players to leave their ships (or freighters) and use their jetpack to fly among the stars.
  • Added a number of Corvette-specific visual effects for engines and landing.
  • Added new audio effects and ambient environments for Corvettes.
  • Added specialised camera handling for piloting Corvettes and navigating their interiors.

Corvette Multiplayer Missions

  • Added a Corvette-based mission board, allowing players on board the Corvette to register as mission crew to co-operatively complete objectives in the local system and earn rewards and standing.

Corvette Expedition

  • Expedition Nineteen, Corvette, will begin shortly and run for approximately six weeks.
  • Rewards include new posters, decals and titles, the vigilant jetpack trail and plasma starship trail, an exclusive deadeye cannon module for Corvettes, and the unique Mecha-Mouse robotic companion.

Skyborn Exosuit and Jetpack

  • Added the 5-piece Skyborn Exosuit to the Appearance Modifier, including armour, gloves, boots, legs and torso customisations.
  • Added the Skyborn Jetpack to the Appearance Modifier.

Twitch Drops

  • A new package of Twitch drops will begin shortly. Sign up and connect your platform accounts on the Twitch Drops page, then tune in to Twitch to earn exotic base parts, high-tech starships, fireworks, appearance modifications, and more.

Gameplay and Quality of Life

  • Implemented support for rebinding controls on console.
  • Rearranged a number of input bindings in the controls menu for improved usability.
  • Added a graphics option to adjust the strength of blurring / light scattering on distant objects in underwater environments.
  • On PC and MacOS, added text translations for system-level dialog boxes (for example, when the operating system reports a graphics driver error).
  • Improved the visibility of the "Switch Base" control, for selecting which base to edit while within the perimeter of multiple planetary bases, or within both a planetary base and a Corvette.
  • Added the ability to copy and paste No Man's Sky Friend Codes on PC and MacOS.
  • Improved the appearance of several dialog boxes on the boot and pause screens.
  • Added "scroll on hover" functionality to a number of UI buttons that could overspill in non-English languages.
  • Improved the mouse scroll speed in the base building menu.
  • Increased the number of planets featuring buried ancient bones.
  • Increased the number of planets featuring buried salvageable scrap.
  • Salvageable scrap containers are no longer guarded by corrupt Sentinels.
  • Prevented Echo Locator hint notifications from appearing when a harmonic camp was already locally marked, or while within the perimeter of a camp.
  • Improved the system for displaying the estimated remaining time to a destination on HUD markers, resulting in much more accurate time estimates and tick-down speed.
  • The landing pad readout at the Space Anomaly now indicates where your ship is docked, and accurately reflects landing space availability.
  • Robotic creatures now lay metal eggs.

Rendering

  • Added support for NVIDIA DLSS4. Deep Learning Super Sampling is a revolutionary suite of neural rendering technologies that uses AI to boost FPS, reduce latency, and improve image quality.
  • Added support for PlayStation® Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), improving image clarity using AI-enhanced resolution, for ultra-high definition and incredible detail.
  • Added support for Intel Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) 2, which uses machine learning to deliver higher performance with exceptional image quality.
  • Implemented moment-based order-independent transparency (MBOIT), improving the appearance of translucent surfaces, especially when overlapping.
  • Added localised "hero lighting" for the player character, improving their appearance in darker environments.
  • Improved the rendering and lighting of 3D objects such as the player's ship, Multi-Tool and jetpack on the inventory screen.

The latest update to No Man's Sky, titled Xeno Arena, introduces an exciting twist reminiscent of Pokémon battles by allowing players to collect and battle an array of alien creatures. This new feature adds a layer of gameplay that fans have long anticipated.

In Xeno Arena, players can capture a variety of creatures, from dinosaurs to gaseous blobs, and engage them in battles across space station arenas. This mechanic not only enhances the creature-discovery aspect that has been a staple of No Man's Sky since its inception but also provides new gameplay opportunities, such as breeding, training, and even genetically modifying these creatures. As Sean Murray, the head of Hello Games, notes, the update aims to give purpose to the vast diversity of creatures players encounter.

The update includes the establishment of rankings, leagues, and tournaments, which adds a competitive edge to the creature battles. Each creature comes with unique elemental affinities based on its home worlds, adding strategic depth to how players prepare for battles. This means that the diverse ecosystems of the game now have tangible implications for gameplay.

For those who may not be familiar with Pokémon-style mechanics, this update serves as a refreshing break from other activities in No Man's Sky, such as ship salvaging and resource collection. The addition of Xeno Arena is a welcome enhancement that invites players to explore even more of the procedurally generated universe.

Hello Games has just rolled out an exciting new update for No Man's Sky, aptly named The Swarm. This update introduces a rather intriguing feature - a colossal construct that some players are likening to a "Death Star."

The Swarm update promises to add "something new, huge and foreboding" to the atmospheres of various planets within the game. This monumental addition is said to be like nothing we've encountered before in the expansive universe of No Man's Sky.

For those who enjoy cosmic adventures, this could mean new challenges and mysteries to uncover.
