Resident Evil Infinite Darkness is a Netflix CG animated series coming in 2021, starring protagonists Leon S Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

A debut of a short teaser at Tokyo Game Show, shows off both Kennedy and Redfield in action, with Leon rescuing an unknown male character while Claire takes point in an investigation in a dark, spooky setting.

The CG series is set to air in 2021 as an entirely new project to Netflix's confirmed live-action Resident Evil series, featuring (groan) "the Wesker kids".

Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi will produce the series alongside TMS Entertainment. Quebico, with Resident Evil Vendetta's Kei Miyamoto at the helm, will produce the animation.

Netflix has revealed the storyline as well as part of the voice cast for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is the CGI film coming to Netflix, which was announced back in fall 2020.

According to Netflix, the film is bringing back Resident Evil 2 remake's Nick Apostolides as Leon Kennedy and Stephanie Panisello as Claire Redfield.

Alongside news of Panisello and Apostolides returning to reprise the characters, the film's synopsis was revealed, and apparently, there has been an outbreak at the White House.

Here's the synopsis:

In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House's network. American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate this incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies.

Meanwhile, TerraSave staff member Claire Redfield encounters a mysterious image drawn by a youth in a country she visited, while providing support to refugees. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be of a victim of viral infection, Claire starts her own investigation.

The next morning, Claire visits the White House to request the construction of a welfare facility. There, she has a chance reunion with Leon and uses the opportunity to show him the boy's drawing. Leon seems to realize some sort of connection between the zombie outbreak at the White House and the strange drawing, but he tells Claire that there is no relation and leaves. In time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation to its very core.

The film is slated to arrive on the service this year, and Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi will executive produce. TMS Entertainment will also produce, and Resident Evil: Vendetta's Quebico and Kei Miyamoto are in charge of the animation.

There's also a Resident Evil live adaptation set for a Netflix airing at some point, which stars the Wesker kids. And don't forget about the Resident Evil reboot from Constantin Film that is due to arrive in theaters this summer.

A look at the CGI film Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness was shown during Capcom's Resident Evil showcase this week.

Alongside a new look at Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, a release window was provided. You can expect to watch the film on Netflix this July.

"A new trailer for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness was also revealed, showcasing more of what fans can expect from this CGI animation series coming to Netflix later this year. With a story set several years after the events of Resident Evil 4, both Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield are brought together when their paths cross after investigating two seemingly separate incidents. What awaits them in the darkness that looms large before them?"

The series takes place two years after the events of Resident Evil 4, where President Graham sends Leon to save his daughter, Ashley. When Leon goes to the White House to investigate who got access to the presidential files, a horde of zombies attack him. Claire, who visits the White House to investigate the source of a viral infection, meets Leon and they realize that the two mysteries could be linked.

After a relentless drip of teases and reveals, we finally have a release date and official trailer for Netflix's Resident Evil anime. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will have viewers follow the exploits of Claire and Leon in a 3DCG series.

Check out the full plot summary below, as well as an official trailer that gives us a better look at what's coming our way when it premieres July 8th.

Six years ago (2000), the helicopter belonging to the U.S. special forces who were intervening in the Penamstan civil war fell from the sky. The U.S. Army Mad Dogs, who were in the same battleground, refused orders from the command center to stand their ground and instead went to save survivors of the crash. However, the special forces were already annihilated. The Mad Dogs, led by their captain Jason, were also forced to escape in order to survive.

However, in that place, Jason and his unit saw the supposedly dead special forces moving in strange ways...

In the present (2006), a hacking incident occurs on a top secret White House file. Four agents, including Leon S. Kennedy and Jason, the "Hero of Penamstan," are invited to the White House to investigate this incident. However, when the lights suddenly go out, they are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies alongside the SWAT team. Afterward, the top secret file is found to be related to a biology laboratory in Shanghai, which Leon and the other three agents decide to investigate for clues. As they head to Shanghai in a cutting-edge submarine, a swarm of rat-like Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W.) suddenly attacks, pushing them into a life-or-death situation.

Meanwhile, while staying in Penamstan to provide support for refugees, Terra Save staff member Claire Redfield encounters a strange image drawn by a nonverbal boy. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to depict a victim of viral infection, Claire starts her own investigation. She eventually finds a terrifying experiment that was conducted during the Penamstan civil war. Leon and Claire draw closer to an unimaginable truth that all began in Penamstan. They also discover that a terror that can shatter peace is slowly approaching...
