Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90.

The Scottish actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers.

Sir Sean died overnight in his sleep, while in the Bahamas. It is understood he had been unwell for some time.

His acting career spanned decades and his many awards included an Oscar, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes.

Sir Sean's other films included The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock.

Very sad to hear, the best Bond by a mile.

Sad to hear this. In his prime, for me, the best Bond ever. And in his later years, he still oozed charisma, putting in a great performance in movies like Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, Entrapment and The Rock. One of the all-time greats.

Sad news but 90 is a great innings.

I think I'll treat myself to a Sean Connery weekend. The Untouchables tonight and The Rock tomorrow night.

One of my all-time favorite actors, both for Bond and for all wonderful roles he has done since. My full tribute is on my regular site:

I am doing some hunting. Netflix Canada (my current streaming option) only has Hunt for Red October and First Knight. I have never seen his take on Arthur, but there are also good reasons for that (among them, the presence of Richard Gere as Lancelot, absolutely the last man I would cast in that role). So maybe a rewatch of Red October. He was pretty good for a Scot playing a Latvian serving in the Soviet Navy. I have a boxed set of the Bond movies (up to Brosnan) on DVD squirreled away so I suppose I could pull out a fave like Dr. No or From Russia With Love.

A powerhouse of charisma and swagger in his heyday, with a string of great performances outside his Bond work.

He had a great run from 86-90. Highlander, Name of the Rose, The Untouchables, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Hunt for Red October.

Yeah, a lot of his best post-Bond roles came in that stretch. Robin and Marian was earlier, though.

Terrific actor. The Untouchables was my highlight of his career. He was in a lot of great movies. If I was to pick a lesser-known one, I would choose Finding Forrester.

If you like war/prisoner of war movies, The Hill is an unjustly forgotten movie he starred in. Brilliant stuff and Connery is fantastic in it.

Great Bond and definitely the best in my opinion. So many great appearances on film, from The Rock to The Man Who Would Be King to Goldfinger from Robin Hood to Highlander, to playing the part of a Soviet submarine Captain and always with a lovely Scottish accent :D

Great presence on screen.

Sad news. Another great dead from the old school era of everything.

He retired at an appropriate age too, didn't drag on and on. What a massive amount of work he has left behind too.
