  • Storyline
1915. A young man leaves life in San Francisco behind. Our story begins as a young boy sneaks aboard a mysterious ship in the dead of night. His name? Makoto Daito. Born to an American father and a Japanese mother.
Five eras, five cities—one huge journey across Japan. Each modeled after real locations of their respective eras. 1915, Kokura, Fukuoka. 1929, Kure, Hiroshima. 1943, Minami, Osaka. 1951, Atami, Shizuoka. 1965, Shinjuku, Tokyo.
Witness the evolution of Japanese culture and entertainment across the decades. In 1915—before modern entertainment reached Japan—players can enjoy the risqué pastimes of drinking, gambling, and pleasure buying in Kokura, Fukuoka, a town bustling with workers. By 1929, they'll experience places like Kure, Hiroshima, where foreign influences are emerging. Each era promises unique forms of entertainment.
Live out Makoto Daito's rise to fame in the world of showbiz. In the earliest chapters of our story, Makoto's guide and mentor discovers his hidden talent for music, and, before long, Makoto finds himself not only singing a tune or two but stepping into the role of a showman, producing a wide variety of incredible acts throughout all of Japan.

SEGA has just dropped an official combat overview trailer.

The trailer gives us a sneak peek into the combat mechanics, which look pretty engaging. Here are a few highlights:
  • Dynamic combat system that allows for fluid movement and intricate combos.
  • Unique abilities tailored to different character types, adding depth to gameplay.
  • Stunning visuals that enhance the overall experience.
It's clear that the devs are blending their signature storytelling style with action-packed gameplay, which could make for a really immersive experience.

Stranger Than Heaven has revealed a first look at its opening act, which begins in 1915 and follows Makoto Daito as he flees racism and hostility in America on a Japan-bound ship.

The opening act also introduces Daito's friend-turned-rival Yu Shinjo. Daito's arrival in Japan during the Kokura era places him in a setting where he is seen as an outsider even among his own people.

The game sets this against an era in which modern development clashed with rigid traditions and worldviews, putting Daito on a path towards harsh realities.

Stranger Than Heaven is due to launch on January 15th, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

Stranger Than Heaven released an overview of their major new Show Biz side activity:
  • Promote shows around town to grow your audience
  • Discover new sounds to create original compositions
  • Adjust each individual song element like bass, rhythm, and instruments
  • Each song can be customized to sound completely different
  • Arrange setlists and select the right mood for your current audience
  • Hire singers and musicians while staying within your budget
  • Direct stage production by controlling lighting, smoke effects, and more
  • Successfully executing a show relies more on planning and preparation, rather than just traditional rhythm game mechanics
  • Show Biz will play a pivotal role in the story, in addition to generating income
Also, IGN have released a final preview video
