Donald Trump lashed out at his political opponents in an angry speech at a New Jersey fundraiser just hours after he pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges.

In a speech that lasted just over half an hour on Tuesday night, he attacked a range of prominent public figures including Bill and Hillary Clinton, President Joe Biden and his family, and the prosecutor in the Miami legal case.

"Today, we witnessed the most evil and heinous abuse of power in the history of our country," he opened.

"They are threatening me with 400 years in prison for possessing my own presidential papers," he claimed.

"I am the only one who can save this nation.

"Justice will be done, we will take back our country," he finished.

He is going to cause more riots and bloodshed the way he carries on.

I don't think I've ever in my life seen so many people ride out for an individual so blatantly stupid and corrupt as Trump and be completely blinded by absolutely anything he says and does....even putting their own country that they claim to love repeatedly at risk.

I would have thought I'm used to it by now. But I still find it staggering. If he did shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue I'm beginning to believe that even then the GOP would still be scared to condemn him and his followers would say he shouldn't be punished.

How did it get to this stage?
It's like any cult really. For some bizarre human reason, when more evidence of wrong doing is brought against a leader the zeal and loyalty increases.

Donald Trump is facing four criminal charges over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election result as prosecutors attempt to tie him to the January 6 storming of the US Capitol building by his supporters.

Trump has maintained the result of the November 2020 election was incorrect, with many of his supporters and confidants also expressing doubts about the vote.

Trump has been summoned to appear before a federal magistrate judge in the city on Thursday. It is the third time in four months he has been criminally charged even as he campaigns to regain the presidency next year.

Trump faces four charges:
  • Conspiracy to defraud the US
  • Conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding
  • Obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct, an official proceeding
  • Conspiracy against rights.

The phrase "your favourite president, me" never fails to amuse me.

Be interesting to see how next year plays out.

These are by far the most serious charges. Far far more than the case in New York. On paper if he is found guilty of these he is never getting out (But you know, it's America so a deal may be struck)

But a presidential candidate fighting a court case for federal crimes in an election run up? Massive potential to kick right off in the US next Autumn I'd imagine

Unfortunately, he won't see a minute of jail time IMO.

However, I think he's pissed off enough of his less swivel-eyed support to stop him from being elected POTUS.

Although the world is a mental enough place for either of these predictions to be wrong.

Love how they are trying to frame this as a freedom of speech issue and not a conspiracy

If his only defence is first amendment rights, he's totally fecked. Have they even read the indictments?

And Trump says "I am being arrested for you"
