Just watched his inauguration, shockingly embarrassing as a transfer from one president to another goes. If this was North Korea we would be laughing at it. America is a fecking stupid country.

I watched bits of it. It was supposed to be an American Presidential Inauguration speech, and all it was, was a Trump rally speech. Full of self aggrandising and disunity. I don't think he spoke for the whole country.

Only going to be two genders in America, they are going to take back the Panama Canal, and rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Got four years of this crap

Signed Executive Orders to leave the Paris Climate Agreement and leaving the World Health Organisation.

I don't care what he does in America, it is the impact on the rest of the world that is concerning.

The Trump administration announced the official renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Alaska's Denali to Mount McKinley, fulfilling a campaign promise. 🇺🇸

These changes, part of President Trump's early executive actions, aim to honor historical U.S. figures like President William McKinley, celebrated for his economic policies and territorial expansion during his tenure. The Interior Department stated the moves reflect a commitment to preserving America's heritage.

However, the changes have faced criticism and are unlikely to gain international recognition, particularly the Gulf of America name. Mexico, which shares the coastline of the body of water, has noted the Gulf of Mexico's historic and navigational importance. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum humorously suggested renaming North America "Mexican America" in response.

The Gulf of Mexico thing is just bizarre. Of course, his supporters will be lapping it up even though the rest of the world will still refer to it as the Gulf of Mexico. Weird, just plain weird.

Trump has officially fired the starting gun on a global trade war.

Donald Trump has imposed new tariffs on goods entering the US from Canada, Mexico and China.

The US president signed an executive order putting a 25% tariff - or tax on imports - on all goods coming from Canada and Mexico, to get both countries to crack down on illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

Goods coming from China will also be hit with a 10% tariff "above any additional tariffs" until it cuts fentanyl smuggling. He has already pledged to target the country with a 60% rate, and has mulled a 200% tax on some car imports.

Tariffs are a central part of Trump's economic vision - he sees them as a way of growing the US economy, protecting jobs and raising tax revenue.

During his election campaign, he told voters that the taxes were "not going to be a cost to you, it's a cost to another country".

That was almost universally regarded by economists as misleading.

If I understand this correctly, this amounts to a tax on US citizens who will just end up paying a higher price on the goods coming in from these countries unless there is a domestic industry in the US that can supplant the supply at a lower cost.

The US treasury might increase, but it'll be the people paying into it.

Trump's tariff plans will be a disaster, with other countries replying with their own tariffs. What will happen then is price rises everywhere. The US will be fuming as gas prices will rise, food prices to rise and many others. So, as usual the poor will suffer.

Trump denied that the tariffs, which are paid when goods enter the US, would push up prices.

"Tariffs don't cause inflation," he said. "They cause success." But economists expect the cost to be passed on to US consumers.

It will take America a long time to set up the infrastructure to replace the goods they are importing which seems to be one of Trump's aims. It could be decades.

There is a reason they get lumber from Canada, Canada has the wood mills to process it at the level the yanks need.

I also see he walked back on the 25% threat on Canadian oil to 10%, this again will only affect the Americans more and more.

This is literally kneecapping your own economy.
