I can appreciate that Trump needs to be "seen" to be doing things in his first 100 days- I get that. Is it wishful thinking that this will settle down in say 6 months? Placing the markets in turmoil with the aluminium tariffs seems a daft move and medium-term trust will be eroded -tit/tat tariffs from other countries on US exports etc leading to stagnation - no winners and a lot of losses.

It suits Trump's base support and popularity to announce all of this but when Americans start hurting in a few months time it's not going to be pleasant - if you ramp up production basing the market on the new tariffs what happens when they're negotiated downwards even one year later? US Companies will fold in debt and job losses - disruption may be "acceptable" where progress is achieved but this is simple protectionism that is anything but stable.

Also, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Trump tried to withdraw the USA from the WTO, followed by NATO sometime during this year.

When I checked a couple of days ago, Google Maps still referred to the Gulf of Mexico, but upon checking this morning, I see that they have now designated it as "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)", which is a weird compromise.

Utter shambles. 4 years of this circus which sadly the whole world has to endure.

He seems intent on just upsetting every country in the world due to his ignorance and above all, his arrogance. He truly believes he is special and can get things done.

Given the fact very little actually got done despite all his bluster and promises the last time, little will get done this time around except for mayhem that will take the next administration a long time to sort.

A dangerous idiot, surrounding himself with like minded dangerous idiots. Musk. Kennedy Jnr. This Hegseth guy seems clueless too?

I heard Newsnight last night reporting that Trump is pressuring Romania to release Andrew Tate. Checked this morning, seems true.

Honestly, where can it go next.

Just saw the clip of Trump claiming Zelensky only has a 4% popularity rating, and that Trump reckons Ukraine shouldn't have started the war and Trump could have done a deal years ago

Surely people don't believe a word he says anymore?

In domestic USA news, watch this space…

President Donald Trump signed a landmark executive order Tuesday that would allow the White House to control independent agencies that have long operated outside of its influence.

The sweeping order, which claims to promote "Presidential supervision and control of the entire executive branch," could affect independent agencies like the Federal Election Committee, Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The order appears to be designed to test a once-fringe legal theory, dubbed the unitary executive theory, which holds that the president has sole control over the entire executive branch. It also reflects the growing influence of Trump's budget chief, Russell Vought, who has long been a proponent of the unitary executive theory.

The order is sure to be swiftly met by legal challenges.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that, for roughly 65 years, conservative Americans have viewed Russia with deep suspicion—branding them as 'filthy Commies,' fearing 'Reds under the bed,' and railing against 'damn Rooskies.'

And yet, here we are with a U.S. president blatantly pushing absurd lies (like claiming Ukraine started the war) in open support of Putin—who, by all appearances, is pulling the strings like a puppet master controlling Mr. Punch.

The collapse of the USSR is, in my view, irrelevant; it didn't fundamentally turn Russia and the West into allies. Sure, there was a brief period after 9/11 when Putin was less hostile toward the U.S. and Europe, even framing Russia's wars in Chechnya as part of the broader fight against terrorism.

But now? He's openly aggressive—invading a European nation (or at least one on Europe's borders), sabotaging deep-sea gas pipelines and IT infrastructure...

And yet, MAGA supporters see Trump's admiration and defense of Putin—a leader whose interests clearly clash with those of the U.S.—as perfectly normal and acceptable.

WTF.
