My favourite type is an old fashioned one that everyone is approachable in - chat to the auld lads at the bar or the 2 young women drinking wine. Everyone feels like they are in their second home. The barman knows what you are going to drink - even before you do! And when everyone gets merry later in the night, there are hugs and jeering and singing.

One that isn't blasting Sky News. Seriously. If you own a pub and you think blasting Sky New is out is your idea of patrons enjoying a quiet pint you're in the wrong business. I don't go to the pub to watch British news or any news for that matter.
