Plot: Married small-time crooks Lou-Jean and Clovis Poplin lose their baby to the state of Texas and resolve to do whatever it takes to get him back. Lou-Jean gets Clovis out of jail, and the two steal their son from his foster home, in addition to taking a highway patrolman hostage. As a massive dragnet starts to pursue them across Texas, the couple become unlikely folk heroes and even start to bond with the captive policeman.

Early Spielberg effort and also early John Williams with the score - their first of many pairings to come. Cinematography is top drawer. Working from a true event but had to put way too much false stereotype in it that doesn't do anything to drive the story along. The tone of the movie is a bit shaky throughout, and the directing is kind of sloppy at times, but all in all a fun movie. Ben Johnson comes across quite sympathetic in his role. Stream it.
