What Has Happened To Manchester City? Soccer

It is certainly unusual to see Man City this vulnerable, and it will surely not last until the end of the season, but listening to Guardiola, it is hard to see how things get consistently better just yet.

They need a rebuild. A major one at that. They never replaced Mahrez, they lost Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, Nunes isn't good enough and Gundogan isn't the same player that left for Barcelona. I bet they wish they still had Cole Palmer at the club!

De Bruyne is picking up too many injuries and reaching the end of his Premier League career.

Haaland has been poor for the last couple of months and the likes of Foden, Grealish, Doku etc aren't scoring any goals either.

The youngsters aren't good enough and they've had a ton of injuries to deal with.

The looming decision about the 115 charges must play some part in it all too.

Too many games, too many injuries, and too much fatigue. The squad hasn't been big enough or deep enough for some time, and they have been slow in the transfer market. The youngsters, understandably, whilst having playing time, haven't been able to progress as quickly as hoped, and several key players are underperforming.

I also think a group of teams in the top half are competitive this season, far more than in previous years and far more consistent than in other years. Bournemouth, Brighton, Forest and Fulham have been at times very difficult opponents in addition to clubs Spurs, Villa and Chelsea who you'd expect to be in the top 6/7.

If you actually stand back and look at their squad as it is, there's a serious lack of legs in there. The Rodri injury obviously doesn't help. But the likes of Bernardo Silva and De Bruyne were naturally going to slow and that decline was creeping in at certain stages of last season. They bizarrely brought back Gundogan, himself and Kovacic look like they're running in quicksand at the minute. Grealish and Doku can only show brief moments of class, and they're not good enough to drag a team out of a slump.

Haaland's lack of involvement in general play is also now a huge issue, they may aswell have 10 men out there at times. They sorely miss another option up front.

At the back they're a shambles, Walker is done, Stones is headless, like wise Gvardiol. Lewis is young, has potential, but also plenty of mistakes. I'm not sure how Pep sorts this currently. A long season ahead for them.

Completely new territory for Guardiola now, and not sure he's particularly interested in turning it round, I know he just signed a new contract but I reckon he wants out - could they know the outcome of the 115/130 charges investigation?

Part of me agrees though I'm not sure he'd want to end years of success like this and why did he sign a new contract if he wanted out? It is new territory though.

Back-to-back wins for Man City for the first time since October, following up their 2-0 victory over Leicester with a 4-1 win against West Ham.

Is the crisis over?

I'm not sure if the crisis is over but they have a good run of fixtures over the next few weeks and will bring in reinforcements during the transfer window.

They won't win the league but I wouldn't be surprised if they finish second which would be crazy when you consider the run of results they have just endured.
