I have largely avoided the Kelvin Universe movies (as they are known among fans). Just don't seem to be what I want from Trek or s-f. Still might give them a whirl someday.
Watched Crocodile in the Yangtze tonight, an interesting documentary about the founding of Alibaba. It's made by Porter Erisman, an American business exec and filmaker who was part of Jack Ma's inner circle in the company's first decade. It's available on Youtube and has been for 5 years so either it is there legally or has somehow slipped under the takedown radar. Still, I won't link it just in case. Just search for the title.

Watched on YouTube over two nights. I'd seen it before, years ago, but had largely forgotten the story.
A star studded cast including David Niven, Ava Gardner, Charlton Heston and John Ireland.
Official representatives of the big powers (UK, USA, Japan, Germany etc.) find themselves under siege in their legations during the Boxer Rebellion which swept through China between 1899 and 1901. The big powers were engaged in carving up China in much the same way as had been done in Africa and the Chinese Empress used the Boxers as a proxy force to try and drive the foreigners out of China.
It's not a bad movie and after watching it one can see why the Chinese are still paranoid about foreign powers.

So alike to 'Fargo' in mood and feel, I was surprised the Coens were not involved. Sort of a Fargo/No Country for Old Men cross. Really enjoyed it.

Was in the mood for a no brainer and put this on. It's actually surprisingly good. Scott Adkins plays a variant of Jason Statham but perhaps with a little more humour. The two leads spark off each other quite well. Watched the sequel too and it's more of the same. I say that as a compliment. Both movies are good craic.

Jason & The Argonauts.
The classic version from 1963. Really enjoyable, seen it years and years ago on some Sunday afternoon, can remember the skeleton soldiers scene from back then and it came straight back to me when they emerged again. Fantastic craic, the dialogue and delivery is laughably bad in places, but I think that was in some way intentional because of the nature of this sort of fantastical story taken from the ancient Greek myths. Really well shot for the time, must have been amazing to see this thing back when it was released and see what were at that time, the most craziest and well crafted special effects on the big screen.
