The post raises an interesting question about potential consequences of winning the lottery, but it lacks depth and examples to support its points. Overall, it addresses a relevant topic but could benefit from more detailed discussion.

Would you tell people outside your immediate family you won the lottery?

Does it bring unneeded attention or in extreme circumstances trouble to let all know of your good fortune?

Would you let the world know?

I wouldn't personally. You would probably end up inundated with letters from people/causes, phone calls etc...

I probably wouldn't tell my direct family, let alone anyone else.

No, I'd just say I won a much smaller amount, £200K or so. It'd explain away the new car and house improvements without making you too much of a target, or ostracise you from begrudgers

I voted No, but it makes no difference in Canada. All lottery winners are made public.

I wouldn't tell anyone outside my family. I know of a family in my area who won a substantial amount in the Euromillions draw 9 or 10 years ago and had to move into a hotel before moving abroad, their lives became a living hell. I know it would be very difficult to keep it under wraps but going public is only going to cause trouble.

No, immediate family only. Would lead to a lot of unwanted attention otherwise.

I would try my best to keep it quiet with only immediate family knowing but It's the kind of thing that would be hard to keep secret would it not?

I'm sure somebody told me that if you go public, Camelot offer some form of protection against harassment - but if you don't and people find out, you're on your own.. If there's some truth to it, I'd reluctantly go public.
