Wow the step up to the Premier League is a big one, isn't it?
Haven't played any games yet, just going through the transfer window and it's hard to get my head round these wage demands and transfer fees. I've been in for some players wanting £40k-£60k a week, was reluctant to pay it because I don't know if we're staying up or not and don't want to ruin us financially if we go down. The same players then sign for Championship teams on £10k-£20k.
Don't know if I should just splurge every last penny we have or not.
Been very frugal so far, paying fees for 5 players that have cost £12.5m combined and one on a free. Two are on the £30k, the rest under £20k . Sold off 5 for £18m. We should have another defender coming in soon for £6m from Sheff Wed who have just been relegated to League One.
The players we've brought in are better than we had, but not by big particularly big margins and I don't know what to expect when the season starts.
Don't think I've handled this the best at all so far.
Was a bit confused as to who we could get with normal work permits and who would need ESC slots. We already had 2 players on ESC from last season, but they're about get full work permits. After using up what was our last 2 ESC slots all the while being reluctant to increase the wage budget by much I went British with a lot of the signings we've made so far and they're not the best at all.
As soon as these 2 get full work permits I'll make at least 2 key foreign player signings. Just upped the wage budget by a lot, from £350k a week to £525k.
Best
Second season at Milan and I won the double, beating Inter in the league by 19 points and 4-0 in the Coppa Italia final to assert my dominance but I'm struggling to make big progress in Europe. I beat Real Madrid in the Champions League before losing to PSG in the QF, but I also lost to 3 English teams in the group stage. They're so overpowered.
I planned to only make 2 transfers but things ended up a bit different. My main target was to get a top striker in and I planned this one in my first season and waited until his contract ran out. He was unsurprisingly brilliant, averaging a goal per game.
My other aim was to bring in a strong centre back to replace Tomori and I spent £50m on Antonio Silva, the Portuguese international from Benfica.
Then I began some player trading, trying to move on some fringe players and sort out my squad on registration rules. I started by selling a Nigerian winger to Dortmund and an American defender to PSV and spent £30m of the £40m made to bring Zaniolo in from Galatasaray. A good winger option who is home grown in Italy. Then I swapped Bennacer (Algerian) and got £7m in exchange for Manuel Locatelli. He's a back up DM but is Milan home grown so helps in Europe. I sold another 5 or 6 fringe squad players and was going to leave it there and then this lad became available...
He's not played much for Barcelona in this save but once he got a consistent run of games, he's developing well. I cleaned out my transfer budget for him.
But then in January, the board decided that the bank balance looked good and gave me another £50m to spend. I stretched that to £70m to bring in one of my former Torino players. This lad has developed so well that he's actually my best player so truly World Class:
Franco Pinion
Finally got into this Clyde save today, things going great.
They had a very competitive squad already and was able to add 5 players to it, 2 of them on just £10 a week.
Feel a bit like Chelsea as we have 27 players now but it can be the case first season in, can't sell off the guys that were just signed in real life. Will trim down for season 2. The board only wanted playoffs which was top 4 out of 10.
Currently huge favourites for the league at odds of 1-91. Reached the Viaplay QF where were knocked out by SPL St. Mirren 2-1 aet, so close to a trip to Hampden Park. Got Championship Ayr United away in the SPFL Trophy 4th round, that will be tricky. As far as the league goes I'd be hugely dissapointed if we don't win it even at this early stage.
This Codjovi lad I signed on a free has been on fire.
Determining which club to take charge of is made easier when you know their finances in advance, so for every team listed here, I have provided each team's starting transfer budget, wage budget, a handy tip to get you started, and assigned every team a difficulty rating from one to five.
Transfer budget: £6.85m Wage budget: £14k/week Difficulty rating: 2/5
The reason Sporting are considered such an easy team to manage in FM24 is because of the young players they have at their disposal.
Ivan Fresneda, Ousmane Diomande, Goncalo Inacio and Guilherme Santos are all under the age of 21 and highly rated. Marcus Edwards and Viktor Gyokeres, formerly of Tottenham and Coventry respectively, are under the age of 25. You already have a strong core in place that, at the very least, should make winning Liga Portugal relatively easy.
Top tip: Santos has five-star potential but is not first-team ready yet, so be sure to loan out the Brazilian midfielder if you cannot find a place for him in your squad.
RB Leipzig
Transfer budget: £17.14m Wage budget: £92k/week Difficulty rating: 2/5
The conveyor belt of young talent RB Leipzig have on their books each season is showing no sign of slowing down. This year's class features two five-star rated prospects in Castello Lukeba and Benjamin Sesko, as well as four-star rated players in Lois Openda and Nicolas Seiwald.
Bayern Munich are a juggernaut that got stronger with the addition of Harry Kane, but Leipzig are not a million miles away from the reigning Bundesliga champions in FM24.
Top tip: With Xavi Simons on loan from PSG and Dani Olmo under contract until 2027, you will either have to use a formation that features a central attacking midfielder or sell Olmo and play Simons further back in central midfield.
Leicester
Transfer budget: £0 Wage budget: £0k/week Difficulty rating: 2/5
The board want a play-off appearance, so expectations are lower than you would think and raising money should not be too difficult. Once you get to the Premier League, things may get a little tougher.
The good news is that Leicester have 10 players at the club (Kelechi Iheanacho, Ricardo Pereira, Wout Faes, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Harry Winks, Conor Coady, Wilfred Ndidi, Patson Daka, Harry Souttar and Stephy Mavididi) with a minimum transfer value of at least £10million.
Top tip: Iheanacho is out of contract at the end of the season and usually wants at least £60k/week if you try to offer him a new deal. Given his wage demands and transfer value (£20million), it may be worth selling him to raise funds instead of losing him for free at the end of the season.
Lyon
Transfer budget: £3m Wage budget: £31k/week Difficulty rating: 3/5
There is no European football and your starting transfer budget is small, but working in your favour is a collection of young players with big expectations.
Sael Kumbedi, Mohamed El Arouch and Rayan Cherki are five-star prospects, while midfielder Johann Lepenant can become a four-and-a-half-star-rated player under the right tutelage. This is more of a longer-term project, as helping Lyon win their first league title since 2008 will likely take a few seasons.
Top tip: Mamadou Sarr, Mahamadou Diawara, Justin Bengui Joao and Steve Kango all start in the second team but have five-star potential. All four players will need time to develop before entering the first-team picture. Aim to carefully select a good loan move for the first three and invest time in 16-year-old Kango's development with a solid training program.
Panathinaikos
Transfer budget: £857k Wage budget: £16k/week Difficulty rating: 3/5
There was once a time when Panathinaikos were a regular in the Champions League group stages, but they have not won a league title since 2010.
In real life, the Greek side beat Marseille in the qualifying rounds but then lost to Braga. Therein lies the challenge, making them part of the furniture in the Champions League again and, in the long run, developing a squad good enough to win it.
Top tip: Eight players over the age of 30 will be out of contract within a year. Of that bunch, former Everton midfielder Bernard and Sebastian Palacios have the highest value, so look to sell them as soon as possible instead of losing them for free at the end of the season.
David76
Las Palmas
Transfer budget: £1.7m Wage budget: -£6k/week Difficulty rating: 3/5
Back in La Liga for only the fourth time in their history, Las Palmas' board want you to bring some glitz and glamour to a squad predicted to finish bottom of the league.
There is an expectation to sign high-reputation players and there is not much of a budget available to fulfil that wish. They do, however, have FM23 wonderkid Alberto Moleiro. The Spanish winger can either be the focal point of your team or a player you sell to increase your bank balance.
Top tip: You will need to sell before you can buy the following players, but if you can create more of a wage budget for yourself, David de Gea is available for free and Chicharito is a low-cost, well-known signing to consider, too.
Aberdeen
Transfer budget: £250k Wage budget: £4k/week Difficulty rating: 3/5
The last team to win the Scottish Premiership not named Celtic or Rangers was Aberdeen, back when they were managed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 1985.
In FM24, overcoming that hurdle should not be impossible, but what happens next is where the real challenge awaits. Winning trophies in Europe will be the ultimate test.
Top tip: Alfie Bavidge and Adam Emslie both have immense potential but begin each save out on loan. Those two, along with Ryan Duncan and former Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson, can form the spine of a good side for years to come, so keep their growth at the forefront of your plans.
Sheffield United
Transfer budget: £0 Wage budget: £25k/week Difficulty rating: 4/5
People are starting to ask if Sheffield United will surpass Derby for having the fewest number of points ever in a Premier League season.
In FM24, there is no transfer budget to work with and very few players on the books who can generate large sums of money. Helping them avoid relegation will not be easy.
Top tip: William Osula is the highest-rated young player at the club, but is not ready to compete for a first-team spot at the start of a save. The ideal scenario would be to loan him out, but if you have to, you may consider selling him to generate some much-needed cash.
Lecce (Salento)
Transfer budget: £4.28m Wage budget: £0k/week Difficulty rating: 4/5
Danish defender Patrick Dorgu is one of the highest-rated left-backs in the entire game, while Joan Gonzalez is another young talent with great expectations. Nikola Krstovic also appears to be a player destined for a big-money move at some point soon.
Outside of those three rare bright spots, the odds are stacked against you as you bid to avoid relegation and eventually become Italy's strongest team in FM24.
Top tip: Giacomo Faticanti and Tom Kljun have five-star potential, but given recruiting new players will be difficult, it is probably worth integrating the duo into your first team. If you can raise their profile, you will either have two more first-team players or two assets with decent resale value.
Sparta Rotterdam
Transfer budget: £321k Wage budget: £0k/week Difficulty rating: 4/5
The culture at Sparta Rotterdam in FM24 means you will be expected to sign Dutch players from the lower ranks in the Netherlands. The team itself is viewed as a mid-table outfit, so it is not as if you are taking over a squad with deep pockets or a squad capable of winning it all from day one.
You will not be able to simply flood your team with a concoction of random unknowns from around the world, so this will be a fun test for anyone who backs themselves as a talent spotter and astute tactician.
Top tip: Jason Oost is Sparta Rotterdam's head of development, while Jesper Gudde is their chief scout. Because of the club's transfer expectations, you will likely need staff members in those roles with better attributes, so look to replace both early on.
David76
Eupen
Transfer budget: £557k Wage budget: £15k/week Difficulty rating: 4/5
The board want you to sign Qatari players, but your supporters want to see you sign German players. Either way, your pool of potential options is limited from day one.
As for the team itself, Eupen are viewed as a mid-table prospect within Belgian football. The first task will be to win the league, while the second, more difficult adventure, will be to find a way to make them one of Europe's best teams while having a restrictive transfer policy to abide by.
Top tip: USMNT goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina is on loan from Chelsea, while Wolfsburg forward Bartosz Bialek is also temporarily at the club. If you are not satisfied with the other options in those positions, you can afford to sell them to raise funds.
Wrexham
Transfer budget: £250k Wage budget: £10k/week Difficulty rating: 5/5
The Hollywood-owned Welsh club are predicted to finish first in League Two in FM24, but things will only get tougher after that.
Generators ran an experiment to see how long it'd take them to reach the Premier League in FM23 and it took 10 seasons. As soon as they go to the Promised Land, they were instantly relegated. Your first promotion may be straightforward, but rising to the top of the footballing pyramid will not be.
Top tip: Wrexham could do with one or two more experienced additions, so consider signing some free agents, such as Danny Drinkwater, Phil Jagielka, Steven Caulker, Ravel Morrison, Liam Moore and Dan Gosling.
FC Andorra
Transfer budget: £0 Wage budget: -£1.21k/week Difficulty rating: 5/5
Gerard Pique is the owner and they are predicted to finish rock-bottom in Spain's second division after enjoying a fast rise through the ranks in the past few years.
If that was not enough of a challenge, you will be expected to play entertaining and attacking football despite having very few resources to improve, which means grinding out 1-0 wins with boring football may still put your position at risk.
Top tip: Jandro Orellana is one of FC Andorra's best players and is often wanted by other clubs. If you want to make things even harder, sell Orellana, sign some better scouts and look for hidden gems from smaller leagues around the world.
FC Vaduz
Transfer budget: £269k Wage budget: £2.5k/week Difficulty rating: 5/5
Vaduz, a team based in Liechtenstein, are in Switzerland's second division but also find themselves in the Europa Conference League.
The club's board want you to sign Liechtensteiner players, restricting your transfer capabilities. This particular challenge will be fun for people who enjoy building the best youth academy around, as that seems the most likely path to building a European superpower.
Top tip: Vaduz do not have any scouts employed at the start of the save. Given the club's low profile, it will be slim pickings at the start, but Fritz Voltmer, Zeljko Kovacevic and David Cattelani are three scouts worth considering as starting points.
Altay
Transfer budget: £75k Wage budget: £0k/week Difficulty rating: 5/5
Altay are one of three sides in the Turkish second division that have a transfer ban, but unlike Erzurumspor FK and Giresunspor, Altay are predicted to finish 17th in an 18-team league.
Aiming to dethrone Turkish football's established teams is all well and good, but actually doing it will require a lot of patience and makes for the type of long-term save that can keep you invested for a good few seasons.
Top tip: Marco Paixao is the club's best striker, but he is 38 and does not press well. Until you can bring in new recruits, you may have to avoid using a tactical style that prioritises pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch.
Football Manager 2024 Console is getting ready for the new campaign and is set to launch globally from November 6th on Xbox, Xbox Game Pass and, after a sparkling debut season, PlayStation 5.
As previously revealed, you will now be able to bring forward your saved games from FM23 Console and continue your journeys to footballing glory.
On top of this, Sports Interactive have been working hard on new features that ramp up the immersion and elevate your gameplay experience.
Dive into the detail of this year's additions and upgrades, including:
Shape a title-winning culture
Defining the sort of boss you want to be is central component to every manager's job. In FM24 Console, a brand new Dynamics system gives you a better understanding of your players' personalities and how they respond to your decision-making and managerial approach.
When you create your manager profile and pick your team, you'll be prompted to select your Manager Principles. These are a set of core values and standards, including things like Dedication, Consistency and Leadership, that you'll expect your players to live up to every day in training and on Matchdays. As boss, you'll need to choose three from a list of 10.
In order for these Principles to have the desired effect on and off the pitch, you'll need to earn the Buy-In of your players. Buy-In is a new concept we've introduced for FM24 Console that indicates how much your players believe in your vision and your management.
Every player will have a different level of Buy-In based on their distinct personalities, leading to them being described as either Engaged, Enthusiastic, Believer or Devoted. Their Buy-In can and will fluctuate over the course of your career based on how you handle certain situations.
For example, if a player was late to a pre-match briefing you'll have the choice of dropping them for the next month, giving them a reprimand or letting them off. Think carefully before you make your decisions because each choice will affect individual squad members differently.
To capture the diverse nature of the players in your squad, every player has been ascribed an individual mindset based on their Attributes. Each mindset has its own positives and negatives and you're able to see how these come together across your squad with a graph in the Dynamics menu.
The overall mindset breakdown of your squad is key. Having a number of players in your squad with similar mindsets will unlock some bonuses, including improved training performances, while having a strong variety across your squad is a good strategy for having a successful team. Similarly, having a number of positive mindset players will counteract any negative influences in the team and ensure a stronger squad atmosphere and ultimately better results.
SI have also added in a new Hierarchy visual that shows the makeup of your squad from the Team Leaders down to those that have just joined your club.
Set Pieces are a vital part of modern football and this year you've got more resources to make a positive impact at both ends of the pitch.
The new Set Piece Creator from FM24 has been adapted and incorporated into FM24 Console, with your Assistant Manager walking you through four key questions that help to determine your core defensive and attacking preferences.
From the answers you provide, your Assistant will generate appropriate routines for every scenario. When these routines are created, you'll now see that every set piece has specific roles attached to it. Instead of needing to manually assign instructions to specific positions, instructions are now automatically assigned by your backroom team to each of these role categories. For example, instead of saying that you want your right-side central defender to attack the far post, your biggest Aerial Threat will now be given that job.
You can customise these routines, as well as the automatically selected free-kick and corner takers, but you can also let your backroom team manage them for you as the season progresses and your squad changes and adapts.

Developing your club's future
Whether it's a new stadium, a bigger transfer budget or an expanded Youth Intake, you're now better positioned to impact the future of your club with a redefined system for making requests to your owners.
Now housed in a dedicated tab in the Club Vision menu, you're now able to include a contextual reason for why you want a certain project to go ahead. For those requests that are particularly pressing, you also have the ability to mark one per season as 'High Priority'.
It's now easier for you to make your voice heard, so it's up to you to make it count.
David76
Improving our accessibility
We made a number of accessibility changes for FM23 Console and for FM24 Console we've enhanced our efforts to bring us in line with industry best practices for accessibility.
You'll now notice that there's a photosensitivity warning when you first load the game, while there's also the option to turn off 'hold' button presses from your first launch.
Player feedback has led to SI adapting the in-match commentary bar so that the text and background colours are more complementary. Elsewhere, they've made slider menus more adaptive and responsive and incorporated new controller induction screens to our in-game onboarding system.
NEW WAYS TO PLAY WITH GAME MODES
There are now three ways to start a save – 'Original', 'Real World' and 'Your World'.
Original: Players will be at the clubs they play for in the current Football Manager database at the start of your game, reflecting the most accurate real-life data.
Real World: Players will start the game contracted to the clubs they were with on the real-life date your Career begins. They will then move to their new club on the same date as they did in real life.
Your World: Club squads and budgets will be set at the date your game starts, and only players who joined before that date will be at your club - with all future transfers (for Real World mode) cancelled, giving you the opportunity to change history.
When choosing the team you want to manage, the option to 'Choose a Game Mode' will appear, taking you to a section with three options.
At this stage, you then have the option to select 'Advanced Setup' or 'Quick Start'.
Note - if playing in the MLS or A-League and choose Real Life Transfers mode, no further transfers can be made for the first season in-game.
Also new this season
That's not all - there are a number of other changes waiting for you to discover throughout FM24 Console.
When beginning your career, you'll have more Manager Creation customisation tools to work with, including a number of new hairstyles, facegen improvements, and the addition of new outfits, face paint, lapel badges and ability aids.
Your opponents will be smarter in their transfer market decision-making and their team selection following a number of under-the-hood changes. This means you'll face more transfer battles for top stars and see your opponents develop their prospects with increased playing time, adding greater competition and immersion to every career. When trying to offload players, meanwhile, you'll notice that new studio partner TransferRoom are making their in-game debut.
There are also upgrades to the Dynamic Manager Timeline. Having first introduced this last year, Si have worked this year to improve the card design and introduce a number of new potential events to capture the variety and uniqueness of every career.
More ways to battle for online bragging rights
FM24 Console brings with it more opportunities to challenge your friends online.
Not only can you complete against those on the same device as you, the enabling of cross-play means that those of you on Xbox can play with people on PS5 and vice-versa.
Cross-play will be applicable across all three online game modes in FM24 Console – Fantasy Draft, Online Career and Versus mode – and just requires you to both be on the same version of the game
Experience the fast-paced thrill of football management with the arrival of Football Manager 2024 Mobile on November 6th, exclusive for Netflix members.
Ahead of this year's release, a host of new features have been introduced to elevate your career as you look to fast-track your way to footballing glory, including…
Prepare for battle with the new Pre-Match Hub
Whether it's a title decider, a cup final or a regular midweek league match, getting key insights about your upcoming opponents can help you outsmart your rivals on the pitch.
In FM24 Mobile, the new Pre-Match Hub bring you up to speed on all the hot topics before those all-important games, including tactics, scouting reports, analysis and key stats.
Your opponents strengths, weaknesses and form are all here - giving you the perfect pre-match insight to exploit any vulnerabilities.
Your reports will also reveal a predicted starting line-up, their danger-men and reveal their style of play. Are your tactics set up to beat your rivals, or do you need to head back to the tactics board?
Match Expectations will also inform you of the media's pre-match prediction, how your board thinks things will pan out, and the thoughts of your fans. Alongside this, you'll get a clear sense of your player's mood and clearly see who is ready to battle for the win.
With all the key pre-match information at your fingertips right up until matchday, the Pre-Match Hub will keep you fully prepared as you look to tweak your tactics and shuffle your line-up for the big game.
To help you reach the top of the game in FM24 Mobile, a revamped onboarding system will help you get to grips with the world of football management.
In-game guidance for areas like navigation, tactics and player development are all implemented, helping you to speed towards those all-important matchdays.
For example, when setting up a tactic, an overview of each tactical approach will appear, helping to explain the differences between tactics like Route One football and Tiki-Taka. Hoof it long, play out from the back, counter-attack - your tactical style is up to you.
Alongside this, you'll be shown the strengths and weaknesses of each tactic for your team – so, for Route One football, if your team has some aerially powerful strikers, then this may be the tactic for you.
With this guidance implemented across the game, you'll be better informed about the importance of each screen, and how each area can benefit you in your quest to become the world's best.
David76
Develop a Managerial Reputation
In FM24 Mobile, you can now earn reputation titles as you progress through your career based on your tactical approach, personality and transfer decisions, which can provide benefits too…
If you've developed a reputation for developing youngsters into top players, you'll receive a reputation title as a Star Maker. If you're then in the market to sign a wonderkid for your team, they might see your club as the perfect stepping stone based on your reputation.
You can also earn reputation titles through your people management style. If you're someone who isn't afraid to let the team know they're underperforming, you may find yourself with a Hair Dryer reputation title – but that could encourage your players to work that extra bit harder.
Your players may also react more to your reputation. Some players may be happy to have a half-time dressing down, while others may respond negatively – so keep an eye out for their reactions…

Discover a new league
The long-awaited journey to Japan has arrived with the Meiji Yasuda Insurance Ltd J1, J2 and J3 leagues fully unlocked and playable on FM24 Mobile.
With an incredible wealth of talent, as demonstrated by the success of Japanese players across the European stage, you will now be able to manage and scout the nation for future prospects and first-team starters as you look to recruit the right players for your club.
The best of the rest
Uncover fully updated team, player and competition data in FM24 Mobile. The inclusion of starting injuries from the database, along with a larger number of national team players, will help give the richest and most complete game world yet.
A brand-new load & save screen will allow you to manage and track multiple careers, each with dedicated folders to help you organise your managerial personas.
Some smaller changes that SI has made to FM 2024 to enhance the gameplay experience.
Fixture Scheduling
A lot of issues relating to fixture congestion have been fixed, particularly for those clubs competing in continental club competitions. So, if you're playing in multiple competitions in FM24, you should now find fewer instances of fixture pile-ups at the end of the season.
Attribute changes for staff
Just as the Attribute changes of your players are displayed in the Training section of the game, you'll now find that the Attribute changes of non-playing staff are now shown in the Coaching tab within their profile. This ultimately allows you to have better insight into their personal progression.
Youth system rankings
A new youth system ranking has been added to show you how you're doing in relation to the Club Vision objective of becoming 'the best youth system'.
Certain milestones, like becoming the best in your country, will trigger an inbox item that will clearly indicate where your club ranks among other top academies.
Use last year's Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct news item, which lets you set disciplinary measures for your team, will now default to the most recently set Code of Conduct, making it easier for you to accept it and keep it consistent from season to season.
Accessibility improvements
Improving the accessibility of FM has been one of SI's big goals in recent years and FM24 features a number of new additions in this area.
There is now a font description widget in the game, a notification for players that they will be taken out of the game when opening the Privacy Policy, an epilepsy warning when you first launch the game and general improvements to sliders.
All of these improvements should help the game to be more compliant with the best practices for accessibility.
Manager creation improvements
FM24 features a number of character improvements that give you more options for customisation and inclusivity. This year's changes include:
Facegen improvements - we've pushed the tech as far as it can go before our engine change for FM25
New Hairstyles
Texture overhaul
Updated existing textures for Hairs
Addition of New outfits
Addition of Face Paint
Addition of Lapel Badges
Addition of Ability Aids
Reviewing your record against your rivals
This year, you now have the option to select which team you want to see your past results against rather than just your next opponent. With this added functionality, you should be able to plan ahead better for your future fixtures.
Dynamic Manager Timeline
Having introduced the Dynamic Manager Timeline last year, SI have added a number of new potential events to it for FM24. These include:
Come from at least three goals behind to win or draw a match
Scoring a goal in added time (90+) to win or draw a game against your rivals
Title race "heads to the wire"
Youngest player to play for the club
Beating your rival after a certain number of years
Losing to your rival after a certain number of years
Giving a player an international debut
Spending a record amount on player
There are also tweaks to the card design, included changes to rare events to better showcase those moments within the Dynamic Manager Timeline.
For FM24, SI have added a new Match Preparation tab to the Training section. This, and the Match Focus Session that lives there, are part of their continued attempts to mirror the way real clubs and managers do things.
Before each match you'll receive a new inbox item that allows you to set one tactical focus and two set piece focuses in for your Match Focus Session.
When you click on the Tactical Preparation dropdown, options will appear for you to choose and, as you hover over, the description will change along with a suggestion from your staff about which of the opposition's tactical areas you want to study with your team.
Similarly, clicking on either of the Set Piece Preparation dropdowns will give you different options to choose from alongside staff recommendations on whether you should focus on presenting the opposition's attacking strengths, or highlighting their defensive vulnerabilities in the focus meeting.
Match Briefing Feedback Panel
They have also made a number of improvements to the visual experience for the pre-match briefing feedback panel, including:
If your captain or vice-captain has a notable reaction, this will appear in your panel instead as the most important feedback piece
When other reactions are hovered over, the other players in agreement will be listed individually, so you can see exactly who is reacting positively and negatively
Offer out on Loan via the Development Centre
The Development Centre now includes the option to assess your young talents and offer them out to clubs directly with the aim of boosting their chances of first-team football. To save you time, SI have added a button next to the players that are recommended to be loaned out.
Player Swap Deals
When you're in the middle of transfer negotiations and you're looking to add a player to exchange, you are now able to select someone from a dropdown menu rather than needing to navigate to another screen and manually adding them from there by right-clicking.
David76
Overview of Managers per Competition
A competition-based panel now outlines all the managers in your league. This also includes a 'Duration at Team' measure, so you can easily compare your length of service to your rivals.
Most League Title and Champions Stats
SI have added some new inbox items that round up the teams with the most league titles in a division and deliver you the playing statistics of the team named champions.
Fantasy Draft Improvements
Fantasy Draft has received a number of quality-of-life improvements in FM24, including:
The shortlist functionality during the Draft now shows all the players you have shortlisted instead of only those players who match the restrictions.
Thankfully, a 'Skip Round' button has now been added.
Competition Rules
Every year the Rule Groups team makes hundreds, if not thousands, of changes, to ensure that the league rules of every nation are up to date. Whether it's changes to work permit rules, what separates teams on equal points, youth rules, or anything in-between, they work tirelessly to make sure things are right.
Below is just some of the changes to show a bit about the level of detail that this team, alongside the worldwide team of more than 1,400 researchers, go into. Here are 10 examples of things that the rule groups team worked on for FM24.
Gibraltar is now a default playable nation, rather than a separate Steam Workshop download. That means that there are two new playable nations from the off this year with the previously announced addition of Japan's top leagues through the J. League licence.
New English work permit system changes – including telling the world what ESC actually means!
Large scale competition format changes (inc. North American national team and club team competitions, 2026 World Cup format, new Club World Cup format from 2025)
Enabled a dynamic English youth system, whereby a club's youth team will now move up or down youth competition levels based on the club's youth rating.
Allow functionality for more than three nations to host a tournament.
In the Canadian Premier League, the end-of-season playoffs now has a dynamic format based on the teams adhering to the league rules that stipulate Under-21 players must play for a set number of minutes per season for their teams to be eligible for the playoffs.
Standardised substitution and foreign players rules across a number of leagues, and also added some new rules to the Competition Rules screen, such as when prize money is paid out and which teams are ineligible for promotion.
In Argentina, there's a new aggregate table for qualification to continental club competitions.
In Malaysia, implemented the new foreign player rule for the Super League.
In Turkey, implemented the dynamic drawing of teams for the 2. League Groups.
Whether they're a potent source of goals or one of your team's key defensive strengths, set pieces are an integral aspect of every football match and every manager's tactical approach.
Many elite clubs have added set piece specialists to their coaching teams in recent seasons as they seek to find that extra 1% to help them edge out their most fierce rivals.
Their arrival on the scene has led to many ann upgrade in the way the Set Pieces system works in FM.
Now in FM24, the most complete edition in the series to-date, expert insight from key industry contacts means that Set Piece Coaches are making their debut and will help to power a refreshed Set Piece Creator.
A powerful new voice in your backroom team
In FM24, Set Piece Coaches are now a specialised staff role. In order to make this possible, SI have added a Set Pieces attribute to every coach in the database that indicates their ability to train your players in the tactical aspects of set pieces.
That said, the profiles of the Set Piece Coaches look a bit different to those of other coaches in previous editions of FM. Instead of a Scouting Knowledge panel on the right-hand side, you'll now see their Set Piece preferences clearly indicated. These preferences cover everything from the sort of delivery style they prefer to how they like to set up defensively.
If you're lacking a Set Piece Coach at your club and you've got the space to hire one, you'll be encouraged to sign one in a Staff Meeting.
As well as helping you with the creation and development of your set piece routines, FM24 will also deliver you greater insight into the approach of your opponents.
SI have added some new visuals to illustrate how strong teams and individual players are at both attacking and defending set pieces. There's also a new type of visual that will be useful for seeing where a team tends to aim their deliveries, allowing you to work with your backroom team to evolve and adapt for every fixture.
Making an impact at both ends of the pitch
The introduction of Set Piece Coaches and a refresh of the Set Piece Creator delivers you new and refreshed ways to create match-winning routines in every scenario.
Best
The set piece creator looks great.
Tom
How useful will that actually be though? Or how realistic will they make it. If you get the best set piece coach on the game will you score of like nearly every set piece. Or will you still never score on set pieces after bringing one in?
Football Manager 2024 is introducing an innovative feature that could redefine your managerial experience—Game Modes.
Three Choices, Three Different Realities
FM24 gives you not one, not two, but three different ways to play the game, allowing you to tailor your football management journey as you see fit. Here's a brief rundown:
Original Mode: The Classic Experience
How It Works
In Original Mode, you're stepping into the traditional realm of Football Manager, a staple that seasoned managers have come to love. At the start of your career, the squad you inherit will be as up-to-date as possible, reflecting real-life transfers that happened right up until the closure of the latest transfer window.
The Benefits
This mode offers a degree of predictability that many find comforting. You know what you're getting: a snapshot of the real-world football landscape at a particular point in time. Say you're managing Liverpool; you'll have their latest signings, like any new defenders or midfield maestros added during the last transfer window.
The Drawbacks
On the flip side, this static setup means you won't experience the ongoing twists and turns that real-world football seasons often bring. There won't be any surprise departures or sudden signings outside the virtual transfer windows within the game.
Real World Mode: As Real as It Gets
How It Works
Real World Mode is where the game's dynamism shines. You'll start your managerial career with players registered to their clubs at the precise beginning date of your new job. As the season unfolds, these players will move to their new clubs, mimicking real-life transfers and other events.
The Benefits
If you enjoy navigating the uncertainties and surprises that come with real-world football, this mode is for you. For example, if you're managing Miami FC and Lionel Messi decides to retire mid-season in reality, you'll face the same challenge in your game.
The Drawbacks
The downside? It can be a bit jarring to adapt to sudden changes, especially if a key player leaves or gets injured in real life, affecting your virtual squad.
Your World Mode: The Sandbox of Possibilities
How It Works
Your World Mode is a divergence from reality, offering a sandbox for your managerial fantasies. The club's squads and budgets are frozen in time as of the start of the 2023/24 season. From that point on, no real-life transfers will affect your game.
The Benefits
This is your playground to rewrite football history. Ever wondered what would happen if Harry Kane stayed at Tottenham Hotspur for another few seasons? This mode lets you explore such 'what-if' scenarios without the interruption of real-world events.
The Drawbacks
The drawback here is a loss of real-world immersion. The game won't evolve in line with reality, which might be a turn-off for purists.
Matchdays are the moments that get the adrenaline flowing in every Football Manager career. They're where tactical visions come to life, underdog stories are written and players win a lifelong place in your heart with their heroics.
In FM24, the most complete version in the series to-date, the team have vastly improved the way players behave in the engine.
From animation locomotion upgrades that improve off-the-ball movement right through to player rotation enhancements that enable you to incorporate more positional play in your tactics, you'll notice the changes from your first kick-off.
The introduction of a brand-new player role brings you closer to the cutting edge of the professional game, while other roles have had their functionality refined to complement some of our other changes.
SI have also made upgrades to our ball physics and matchday lighting to level up the immersion, so let's dive into why this year's match experience is the best yet.
Delivering new avenues for attacking play
Thanks to the likes of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, positional play has become one of world football's most popular principles in recent years.
Put simply, it's an approach that sees players take up positions on the pitch that help their side to create numerical advantages with passing triangles and diamonds. The intention of these shapes is to create space, give the ball-carrier several passing options and allow the team to progress possession up the pitch towards the final third.
Understandably, many budding managers have been keen to try and emulate those positional play-driven approaches in FM. The SI Match team have strived to deliver you more tools to do so, particularly with regards to improving player rotations on the pitch.
You'll see that some players, based on their role and those you've included around them, can now move into another position while you're in possession than would be expected from their default starting base.
Take, for example, a 4-2-3-1 with two defensive midfielders where your pivot players are a Segundo Volante and a defensive Ball-Winning Midfielder and the player just behind the striker is an Advanced Playmaker.
Following rotation changes for FM24, the Advanced Playmaker now recognises the attacking runs of the Segundo Volante in behind. This means that the Advanced Playmaker will move across to open a new channel, freeing up the Segundo Volante to push up as a second number 10 and effectively create a 4-1-4-1 shape in attack. To accommodate this movement, your Ball-Winning Midfielder would occupy a more central position to provide more effective cover.
These rotations work with other aggressive defensive and central midfield roles too, like Roaming Playmakers and Mezzalas. You can see some of those midfield rotations in action in the video below.
To complement these changes, SI have also tweaked the behaviour of the Inverted Winger and Inside Forward roles. Now, when they recognise that you've got an additional midfield player pushing up into the half space on their side, they will stay wider to accommodate them and help you create more overloads.
On a more defensive note, the Half-Back role has had some alterations for FM24. Now, depending on where you're using them in a double pivot, it can take up either the left or right centre-back position while you're in possession.
In summary, these positional rotations mean that your players now behave more intelligently, adjusting their position based on the roles and movement of teammates around them. Your players should have more passing lanes open to them and a better ability to play through the lines, allowing your team's shape to dynamically adjust between different phases of attack.
In conjunction with the visibly improved player movement across the pitch, SI have also rewritten their ball physics system to be more accurate to real life.
The engine now models drag and air resistance more effectively, meaning that the ball will float and spin more authentically. Similarly, deflections will also appear more realistically than they have in previous editions.
Weather is another factor that will affect the movement of the ball, as will things like the temperature or the altitude of the stadium that you're playing at.
The video below illustrates some of these changes in action.
Supporting these ball physics changes are enhancements to the way your players dribble and finish.
SI have implemented more authentic ball friction with the ground, meaning that dribbling attempts will be more realistically affected by the pitch and the weather conditions.
Additionally, you'll notice that your players are now less likely to dribble all the way to the byline before stopping and turning around. Instead, they'll slow down earlier to face up the opposition defender.
These changes also mean that your players are now able to volley the ball into the ground and are more likely to connect with downward headers when the right situation arises.

Elevating your Matchday environment
Day, night and interior lighting have all been upgraded to ensure that you get better colour grading based on the weather, season and time of day. SI have also updated our fog settings so that the time of day and weather conditions are more obvious in every match.
Pitch textures now have a much sharper and more natural look and feel to them, meaning that every match looks more authentic than it ever has.
The graphic below illustrates how much of an improvement there is between the lighting and pitch textures in FM23, on the left, and those in FM24, on the right.
Most authentic and immersive matchday yet
Positional rotations and the brand-new Inverted Full-Back player role give you more avenues for tactical experimentation in FM24. With more intelligent player movement, you'll score some beautifully crafted goals and all of them will be visually elevated by the changes Si have made to ball physics and lighting.
Tom
Looking good. I know they are making major changes next year but they aren't holding back with the features for FM 24.
Whether it's your team scoring for the tenth game in a row, your robust defence keeping another clean sheet or your top prospect realising their potential, there's nothing more satisfying than watching a plan come together in Football Manager.
There can, sometimes, be bumps on the path to glory. Slumps in form, standards dropping in training and player unhappiness can derail your plans and force a rethink in your approach.
So, in Football Manager 2024, you can now inspire your players to strive for more by setting Targets to elevate their performance levels. Alongside this, SI have also made changes to the way you interact with your players and staff to ensure your conversations are realistic and constructive.
Keep your Players Hungry with Targets
Incentivise your squad, and help players away on loan achieve the best playing time pathway, with individual performance targets to get the most out of your players. The areas that can be focused on are:
Training Improvements (New position, role, traits and average ratings)
Goals
Assists
Clean Sheets
Match performances (first team or reserve team)
The opportunity to set a target will be available when you praise or criticise a player for their recent performances, when you make a comment to a player leaving on loan, in contract negotiations for new signings and player renewals, or as a way of resolving a player's unhappiness. Bear in mind that both the player and their agent may want to negotiate it.
When setting a target, the player's personality, their relationship with you and the context of the situation are also important factors to consider.
For example, in those all-important contract discussions, offering a playing time pathway can significantly boost a player's interest in joining your club, but it can be difficult to justify whether your potential signing should be promised a regular spot in a few years.
So in FM24, linking closely to a playing time pathway promise, you'll be able to offer a target in the contract negotiation screen. For instance, if a promising striker has asked to be a Regular Starter as part of their playing time in the 2025/26 season, you can now respond with a target for the 2024/25 season, which could be goals in league matches. If they were to hit that goalscoring target, you'd be expected to honour the agreement by making them a Regular Starter in the following season.
When targets have been set, you can track how your players are progressing using the new Targets tab on the Home screen, where you will also be able to monitor the players' opinions on their progress.
For loan players, any playing time, plans or targets will be highlighted in purple to make it clear that these only relate to their loan move, and are not specific to your club.
For players that you sign on loan, they may arrive with targets that their own parent club has set, so keeping to the conditions of the loan will help that player meet their own targets.
Your staff can offer advice, through Staff Meetings or inbox items, about where they feel it's suitable for you to offer targets to a player.
If a player successfully meets their target – such as scoring more goals, providing more assists or achieving a strong training rating - you'll be able to congratulate them, but also may have some promises to follow through on, such as offering them a new contract. So, make sure you follow through with those to keep your players happy.
On the flip-side, if a player fails to hit their target you'll be notified by your Player Liaison Officer, who will explain their reaction to the target failure, and who they think is to blame - it's then up to you to decide how to handle the situation.
If multiple players fail, you'll be given the option to discuss any outstanding contentious issues directly with these players. This can arise because of any issues the player has with you, which can include game time, or any problems a loanee has with their manager.
In fail scenarios, a player can respond in different ways. If they came close to completing their target, the player might come back to you and back themselves. The player can also reference other metrics that highlight positive performance levels. For example, while they might not have met the goalscoring target you set, they may have recorded several assists during the period.
If injury causes the failure of the target, either at an early stage or at the end, the player will accept that the target couldn't be met at this time.
So, if you feel your star striker needs a bit more motivation in front of goal, or you want to see your youth prospect make big strides out on loan, Targets give you the opportunity to challenge your players as you look to maximise their ability.
Better Conversations with Interaction Logic Changes
The newly added player targets are part of a wider group of changes to try and make Football Manager 2024 even more immersive than previous versions of the game – and that required some big changes under the hood to how the logic of interactions works.
It's not just new interactions added with targets for players, or agent interaction, SI also looked at hundreds of other areas of the game where you are having conversations with your players or their agents to try and make them even more believable. They often speak about how important the suspension of disbelief is to the experience you have when playing Football Manager, and there were times in-game where your players may have had an extreme reaction simply because they didn't have options not to.
One of the big changes SI have made to interactions in FM24 are the improvements to the string severity system, which allows each positive or negative AI response to have three different variants of severity - with over 2,000 new AI responses.
So, you'll now witness fewer instances of overly severe and unrealistic responses from players. For example, if your star striker has just single-handedly led your team to victory and you're keen to shower them with praise, they're less likely to react to extremes. Now, positive, netural and negative reactions of differing levels more accurately reflect their opinion.
Increased context for reactions will also be provided where suitable, helping to provide additional reasoning and opportunities to convince them to change their opinion if you're not quite on the same page about a conversation topic.
Issues have also been resolved to address instances of unrealistic player unhappiness, and providing clearer reasoning behind their concerns. So, if a player is considering exploring options at the end of their contract, their desires should be made more obvious – be it the lure of continental football, or waiting for the club to be promoted.
Elsewhere, requirements for promises are clearer, making it easier for you to see how your players feel about the current progress – such as the promise to strengthen your defence, for example. If you complete a promise earlier, that player will become satisfied – rather than having to wait until the end of the promise date for their happiness to change.
As a result of this extensive work, your interactions in FM24 will result in a wider range of more realistic reactions, both from a verbal and body language perspective, ensuring you have truly constructive conversations with the players and staff at your clubs.

Get the Key Information you Need in Staff Meetings
SI have also improved Staff Meetings in FM24 with them now being more customisable and surfacing the most relevant information you care about.
When the meeting agenda arrives, you can now skip individual topics if they're not of interest or relevant to your focus. For instance, if you really want to speak to your staff about Coaching but would rather leave Recruitment to another week, a new option gives you the opportunity to directly shape the conversation.
When clicking on 'Meeting Preferences', you can now customise the delivery of each staff topic. You'll have the option to include subtopics in Meetings, get summaries to your inbox or skip certain topics going forward – whatever's important for you.
In your Meetings, when suggested hires for your backroom staff appear, their club and rating have been removed to show more relevant information. Now, you'll see their key Attributes for the suggested job role, along with some context as to why they have been recommended. A new pop-up also allows you to look at your existing staff members in that role at your club.
Get More from your Players and Staff
Targets, interaction changes and Staff Meeting enhancements bring you closer to the key people at your club. Realistic conversations help you set important goals for your players and communicate vital information with your Staff.
