Wow the step up to the Premier League is a big one, isn't it?

Haven't played any games yet, just going through the transfer window and it's hard to get my head round these wage demands and transfer fees. I've been in for some players wanting £40k-£60k a week, was reluctant to pay it because I don't know if we're staying up or not and don't want to ruin us financially if we go down. The same players then sign for Championship teams on £10k-£20k.

Don't know if I should just splurge every last penny we have or not.

Been very frugal so far, paying fees for 5 players that have cost £12.5m combined and one on a free. Two are on the £30k, the rest under £20k . Sold off 5 for £18m. We should have another defender coming in soon for £6m from Sheff Wed who have just been relegated to League One.

The players we've brought in are better than we had, but not by big particularly big margins and I don't know what to expect when the season starts.
Don't think I've handled this the best at all so far.

Was a bit confused as to who we could get with normal work permits and who would need ESC slots. We already had 2 players on ESC from last season, but they're about get full work permits. After using up what was our last 2 ESC slots all the while being reluctant to increase the wage budget by much I went British with a lot of the signings we've made so far and they're not the best at all.

As soon as these 2 get full work permits I'll make at least 2 key foreign player signings. Just upped the wage budget by a lot, from £350k a week to £525k.

Second season at Milan and I won the double, beating Inter in the league by 19 points and 4-0 in the Coppa Italia final to assert my dominance but I'm struggling to make big progress in Europe. I beat Real Madrid in the Champions League before losing to PSG in the QF, but I also lost to 3 English teams in the group stage. They're so overpowered.

I planned to only make 2 transfers but things ended up a bit different. My main target was to get a top striker in and I planned this one in my first season and waited until his contract ran out. He was unsurprisingly brilliant, averaging a goal per game.

1723490957406.webp

My other aim was to bring in a strong centre back to replace Tomori and I spent £50m on Antonio Silva, the Portuguese international from Benfica.

Then I began some player trading, trying to move on some fringe players and sort out my squad on registration rules. I started by selling a Nigerian winger to Dortmund and an American defender to PSV and spent £30m of the £40m made to bring Zaniolo in from Galatasaray. A good winger option who is home grown in Italy. Then I swapped Bennacer (Algerian) and got £7m in exchange for Manuel Locatelli. He's a back up DM but is Milan home grown so helps in Europe. I sold another 5 or 6 fringe squad players and was going to leave it there and then this lad became available...

1723490984949.webp

He's not played much for Barcelona in this save but once he got a consistent run of games, he's developing well. I cleaned out my transfer budget for him.

But then in January, the board decided that the bank balance looked good and gave me another £50m to spend. I stretched that to £70m to bring in one of my former Torino players. This lad has developed so well that he's actually my best player so truly World Class:

Finally got into this Clyde save today, things going great.

They had a very competitive squad already and was able to add 5 players to it, 2 of them on just £10 a week. 😲

Feel a bit like Chelsea as we have 27 players now but it can be the case first season in, can't sell off the guys that were just signed in real life. Will trim down for season 2. The board only wanted playoffs which was top 4 out of 10.

Currently huge favourites for the league at odds of 1-91. Reached the Viaplay QF where were knocked out by SPL St. Mirren 2-1 aet, so close to a trip to Hampden Park. Got Championship Ayr United away in the SPFL Trophy 4th round, that will be tricky. As far as the league goes I'd be hugely dissapointed if we don't win it even at this early stage.

In late August 2024, Microsoft launched the public testing of Xbox Game Pass Standard, a new tier of its ever-growing Game Pass Program. A few weeks later, the Xbox Game Pass Standard is now available to all Xbox users in supported regions.

Xbox Game Pass Standard costs $14.99/£10.99 per month. For this price, Xbox users get access to hundreds of console games, online multiplayer, and exclusive member-only discounts, some of which can reach up to 50%. However, unlike the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier, Standard does not include access to EA Play, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and PC games. Those perks are available to those willing to pay Microsoft $19.99 per month for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Seven years after its initial launch, the Game Pass program offers plenty of different tiers and options, which might be a bit confusing to newcomers. To help users determine which tier is best for them, Microsoft published a neat infographic detailing the perks and benefits of each Game Pass "configuration."

1726083002394.webp
  • PC Game Pass ($11.99/£9.99 mo): Easy option if you play games on PC. If you are a PC-only player, the burden of choice ends for you here. Besides dozens of PC games, PC Game Pass gives you access to the EA Play subscription at no extra cost.
  • Game Pass Core ($9.99/£7.99 mo): This one is for those whose main objective is to play games online with their friends on Xbox. For a "low monthly cost," Game Pass Core provides access to online multiplayer, exclusive discounts on games from the catalogue, and free access to 25 games from the Game Pass library. Consider this the good-old Xbox Live Gold with a few extra benefits.
  • Game Pass Standard ($14.99/£10.99 mo): As the name suggests, the standard tier is for those who want to get the most out of console gaming without spending too much. Game Pass Standard gives access to hundreds of console games, exclusive discounts, and console multiplayer. If you don't need Microsoft's day-one releases, Game Pass Standard is a good option.
  • Game Pass Ultimate ($19.99/£14.99 mo): This is the all-in-one option. It includes console multiplayer, PC Game Pass, Xbox Cloud Streaming, EA Play, exclusive discounts, day-one access, and more. True, this is the most expensive option, but it also gives access to everything that Microsoft has to offer for those playing on PC, Xbox, and in the cloud.

Press Release....
Revising our timelines
We previously stated that we would be confirming FM25's release date at the beginning of September (with pre-orders starting at the same time), closely followed by our gameplay rollout period.

Firstly, we've had to shift the official announcement of FM25 to the end of September. The gameplay focus period will follow soon thereafter. Our target launch date has moved accordingly and is now scheduled for late November, rather than our usual early November slot.

The FM25 development cycle has been challenging for the whole team. We knew that moving the entire game to the Unity engine was going to be a complex endeavour. As we've gotten deeper into the process and gained learnings, it's fair to say it's been trickier than we originally anticipated. The entire dev team has been challenged in a myriad of new ways and are doing an incredible job in the process. I'm excited to eventually share our hard work with you but we need a little more time before we can do that.

As I outlined in June's blog, we've consistently held ourselves accountable to the same three core questions:
  • Would we do it in the same way if we had our time again?
  • Would we have done this at all?
  • Do we have the time required to do this to the highest possible standard, in our first cycle of a new era?
The challenges we've encountered in the development process over the last couple of months have led us to make another difficult decision around game content: international management will not be a playable mode in FM25, FM25 Console or FM25 Touch.

Coming off the back of a summer of tournament football and with this week even being an international break, we've looked really hard at international management in FM and determined that what we were planning to deliver wouldn't reach our initial quality threshold.

We also considered the available game data. Only 5.6% of all FM24 PC saves have used the mode, which we feel validates our view that we need to do much, much better with the experience. That number is even smaller on Console.

So, rather than delay FM25 even further, we've paused work on that area of the game and allocated those resources to other key areas. It will continue to exist in FM25, FM25 Console and FM25 Touch as part of the wider simulation of world football, it just won't be playable.

However, international management will remain playable in FM25 Mobile as that's on a different development track and codebase. For all other versions, international management will return in a much more feature-rich way to FM26, FM26 Console and FM26 Touch in what will be an exciting year for international football with the World Cup expanding to 48 teams. To be clear, this will return as part of the base game and not as any form of additional downloadable content.

While difficult, these decisions are made for the good of the game and the majority of our players. We are determined to ensure that FM25, the first game in a new engine, is as good as it can be in the time we have. By pushing back FM25's release date, we've given ourselves a few extra weeks of development time to try to deliver the best experience that we can for this first in the new era of Football Manager releases.

In recent weeks, I have also taken steps to free up more of my time to focus solely on development and supporting the wider team. One of our core studio values is Consider the Bigger Picture, and what's most important right now is focusing on FM25. I mentioned in June that I'd be speaking at the Unite conference in Barcelona as part of the keynote. While we will still have an FM presence there, I will not be making the trip because I need to concentrate all my efforts on directing FM25. It's for this reason that I will also not be attending Tokyo Game Show, an event I loved last year and really helped make our first-ever release in Japan a big success.

I've also cancelled a trip to America which I was really looking forward to but the game, and you as the players of our games, are the bigger picture.
An update to Player Profiles
When we begin our gameplay rollout, one of the areas I'm really looking forward to sharing is our work on Women's Football.

As you know, it's been a long-term project for us and one of the biggest things we've done in recent times outside of the move to Unity. Throughout the process, we've been laser-focused on introducing Women's Football to FM in the most authentic way possible. We've applied that thinking to everything we've done, as we generally do with all areas of design and development. From a gameplay perspective, being able to move seamlessly between managing men's and women's clubs and vice-versa in one world, one ecosystem was the number one priority - but that's forced us to consider how various game world aspects are currently portrayed.

As such, we can now share a change we've made to all FM25 player profiles: a player's weight will no longer be visible.

Through the creation of our Women's Football database, we discovered that while the weight of male athletes can change a bit month to month, women's body types are very different from men's and their weight fluctuates a lot more, often weekly.

This perspective encouraged us to review the wider game, much like we have with all other areas, and we've ultimately decided to no longer show weight for any players in FM25. A very basic measurement will still be included under the hood, but it won't be visible on the front end anymore.
Testing Update
We also announced in June that we would be welcoming FMFC members within a reasonable travel vicinity to come to our campus in London and help with playtesting the new UI/UX of FM25. We received an enormous response to that, and I want to thank everyone who has volunteered and given us their availability. The playtesting will still be going ahead but as a result of the above milestones moving, the start date is shifting slightly. FMFC members who have applied will be contacted shortly with further date options as we begin to finalise the process.

This should be my last development update until we start focusing more on what's in FM25. We have lots of good stuff to show you that we're excited about but I want to re-iterate that FM25 is the first instalment in a new era for the game, one that will give us a lot more possibilities than we had with the previous chapter.

FM25 is just the starting point for what is a very exciting, long-term project.

They're removing International management from the game and delaying the release

I'm not arsed but the international management thing but it's quite clear the game won't be properly finished.

They've probably delayed it as much as they can before the hype for the new season dies down, and it's probably going to be a mess.

As such, we can now share a change we've made to all FM25 player profiles: a player's weight will no longer be visible.

Is it because they're including women's teams and did it actually do anything anyway?

I'm sure many of them must have been made up, I'm guessing there was a correlation between strength and weight when weight was unknown for less famous players and for regens. Other than that, I don't know what it brought to the game - maybe it was fun noticing that you had a hefty lad on his weight stats every now and then?

Was there even a difference in body type in animations between lighter and heavier players? I never noticed. There was/is when you make your manager heavier.
Given all the staycations going on because of the pandemic and not wanting to sidetrack the Islands thread, here's a new thread dedicated to the Highlands.

I'll start with a couple of pics from a week in Ullapool. The Ceilidh Place is about the best hotel but very pricy. The Arch Inn is not bad and the Ferry Boat Inn is basic but friendly. Most of the others are tour bus type hotels, cheap and cheerful. Any other recommendations welcome.

Let's see/hear your best from Assynt, Coigach, Argyll, Lochabernomore, etc.

Is it worth doing the Highlands without a car or is it more trouble than it's worth?

If anyone has a rough itinerary that would be helpful. I'm thinking Fort William, Mallaig and the Isle of Skye but recommendations are welcome.

I've done with a car and without a car but I didn't do the isle of Skye without a car.

With a car I did Fort William (stayed in a hotel that used to be a prison) then I went up to Ullapool which is lovely. Then after that, we drove up to Thurso. Also had a look around Wick and went to John 0'Groats.

Without a car, I did Aviemore, Inverness and we had a look at the Highland Line up to Wick and Thurso. I'd recommend the Highland Line as the scenery is incredible on the way up. You can also do the Kyle of Lochalsh line from Inverness.

    • Workaround: After adding teams to the PAC-12, open the Conference Rules and set Divisions to ON. Users will see they can now set the number of conference games by toggling back and forth. Users can then disable divisions and edit other settings as desired.
  • Issue with modified conference rules not saving
    • Workaround: Users can re-enter the Conference Rules screen to ensure their settings were saved and are valid. If they did not save, then the rules are not valid with their current setup.
  • Occasionally, when a recruit reaches their Top 5 stage, it will not display the recruit is "Ready for a Visit" despite meeting the requirements.

  • Issue with some players' jersey numbers and/or OVRs changing when editing certain players' gear.
Online Dynasty: A high priority for the team right now is the issue of some players being unable to load into a previously established online dynasty.

TEAM BUILDER
  • When using a Team Builder team in Play Now, cleats are defaulted to Adidas regardless of selected brand apparel.
    • Note: This does not impact Team Builder teams used in Dynasty
  • Second custom image layer not appearing on the field
    • Workaround: Add a second layer, then select a generic image, and then re-select your custom image.

Promo will last 7 days and once claimed, the game is yours to keep forever.

So this is the one that's meant to be the biggest change in the game's history.

So far they've announced Premier League licensing for the first time ever I think, and now a development update is out.

Development Update: Football Manager 25

Key points I took:
  • Multiple women's team licenses.
  • They reviewed how often something was used and therefore removed Social Media screen, Data Chalkboard, Create-A-Club (because they can't improve it to the level they're looking for), Versus Mode, Challenge Mode & Fantasy Draft (coming back at some point during the cycle.
  • New UI/UX driven by a tile and card system.
  • Inbox gone, replaced by portal
Screenshot 1_EN.webp Screenshot 2_EN.webp

Another facet of our UI work has been studying the constant evolution in the way people interact, communicate, and consume information. Historically the screen that people spend the most time on in FM has been the Inbox – essentially, your in-game email. For a while, this has felt quite old school given that modern football managers spend way more time on their phones than laptops.

So, welcome to what we now call your "Portal".

The Portal will be a richer window to the wider footballing universe. It'll give you far better tools to develop your story through the Agenda and Messages sections, but also deliver you more insight into what's happening elsewhere via News and Matches.

Also new screen between match highlights:

Itching for the new game now. Want to run an experiment but think it will work better with the new version.

Would recommend this. Really good investigative journalism coupled with a bungling police effort.

Xbox Game Pass is getting a price hike across all tiers and platforms, and day-one AAA releases are also getting more expensive. In addition, Xbox Game Pass will be temporarily unavailable on console soon, returning later in September with the new Xbox Game Pass "Standard". Pre-existing subscribers will not be affected.

Here are all the major changes. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is getting its price raised to $19.99 / £14.99 a month (previously $16.99 / £12.99), and PC Game Pass is getting its price hiked up to $11.99 / £9.99 a month (previously $9.99 / £7.99). The annual subscription for Xbox Game Pass core is also being increased, rising up to $74.99 / £55.99.

As for this new tier of Game Pass coming to consoles in September, it'll cost $14.99. However, perhaps more importantly, it will not be recieving day-one game releases as part of the sub. It will include Xbox Live Gold - which provides access to online services - but not Xbox Cloud Gaming. If you're on console and still want those day-one releases, you'll have to upgrade up to the Game Pass ultimate tier.

The UK price of the new Standard service has not yet been confirmed but it will be $14.99 in the US, so you'd assume the UK price will be over £10.

Surprisingly, PC Game Pass will still be getting first party games on day one and while it's also getting a price increase it's a more modest increase from £7.99 a month to £9.99 in the UK. The reason being remains uncertain, but one massive factor might be competition on that platform! PC has Steam, a monster of a service that the vast majority of players are happy to stick with. As such, keeping the day-one release perk at a lower price may be an attempt to keep Microsoft sweet in the eyes of this often illusive consumer base.

If you've been left with questions about how exactly these changes will affect your subscription in particular, it's probably worth checking out the FAQ Xbox has posted on its website.

In the midst of Gamescom's Opening Night Live chaos, the Xbox team has provided some more info on its new upcoming Xbox Game Pass Standard option and announced that Xbox Insiders have the choice to preview it, starting now. It's good to hear more from the Xbox team after last month's initial announcement that Game Pass is set to make big changes with price hikes and this new Xbox Game Pass Standard option.

The preview is available for Xbox Insiders starting today and if you participate in the preview, you'll be able to sign up to Game Pass Standard (and renew during the preview period) for £1. Game Pass Standard will cost over £10 ($14.99 in the US) per month when it launches in full.

"We created a new membership option in the Game Pass family to give players more choice in how they discover and play games and provide different prices and plans so players can find what works best for them," Xbox Game Pass senior community lead Megan Spurr says. "For those looking for a larger library with hundreds of games to play on your console, plus all the benefits of Game Pass Core including multiplayer access, Game Pass Standard may be the option for you. Game Pass Standard also includes select member deals and discounts, including up to 50% off select games."

According to the Xbox team, "Hundreds of great games will be available with Game Pass Standard at launch. Players will get access to select titles as part of the new Game Pass Standard library, with more games being added throughout the preview period."

However, Spurr continues to add that "Some games coming to Game Pass Ultimate (day one games or other game entries) will not be immediately available with Game Pass Standard and may be added to the library at a future date (can be up to 12 months or more and will vary by title). We'll continue to share with all Game Pass members when games are being added and available to play for each plan."

Xbox Insiders can have a look at joining the preview in the Xbox Insider app, and Spurr says that "Game Pass Core members with less than 2-months stacked onto their account, Game Pass for Console and PC Game Pass players who are a part of the Xbox Insiders program can participate and share their feedback."
