The discussion around Jose Mourinho's potential return to Real Madrid is heating up. A move back to the Spanish capital would offer Mourinho an opportunity to showcase his skills and silence any critics who believe his best days are behind him. However, it's important to recognise that over the past decade, his reputation has certainly taken a hit.

Mourinho's previous tenure at Real Madrid was marked by significant achievements, including winning La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. His tactical expertise and charismatic personality made him a beloved figure among fans during that time. Yet, in recent years, Mourinho's managerial style has come under scrutiny, leading some to question whether he still possesses the innovative flair needed to thrive in today's game.

As discussions continue about his possible return, it raises intriguing questions about whether he can adapt his methods to the current football landscape. Would he be able to integrate younger players and embrace modern tactical changes while still asserting his authority on the pitch? Or is he a relic of a bygone era, struggling to keep pace with evolving strategies and philosophies?

Mourinho's potential return to Real Madrid could provide him with a chance to prove his critics wrong. His past successes at the club are well-documented, but his recent managerial record has raised doubts. The discussion revolves around whether he can adapt to modern football tactics and lead a new generation of players.

Should Mourinho and Madrid reunite?

Jose Mourinho has officially signed a contract to become the new head coach of Real Madrid! At 63 years old, Mourinho is no stranger to the club, having previously led them to significant victories, including La Liga and the Copa del Rey during his first stint from 2010 to 2013.

While fans are excited about his return, there are several pressing issues that he will need to address right away. Here's a look at what's on the agenda for the iconic manager as he takes the helm once again.

Fan Sentiment
Real Madrid supporters have had mixed feelings about Mourinho's previous tenure. While some fans view him as a charismatic leader who brought success, others remember the controversies and infighting that plagued his last stint. Balancing these expectations will be crucial for Mourinho as he seeks to win over the fanbase.

Team Dynamics
Mourinho's return comes at a time when team cohesion is vital. Reports suggest that there could be tensions within the squad, and it will be up to Mourinho to foster a united front. Building camaraderie among players is essential, especially with the high stakes of competing at the top level.

Star Player Synergy
A significant focus will be on how Mourinho can maximise the talents of key players like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. Their potential link-up play could be a game-changer for the team, and finding the right strategy to harness their abilities will be vital for success.

Expectations and Pressure
With a high-profile return, expectations are through the roof. Mourinho will need to handle the pressure that comes with managing a club of Real Madrid's stature. Balancing immediate results while implementing long-term strategies will be a delicate task.

Arne Slot has been sacked as Liverpool head coach.

The decision has been taken by owner Fenway Sports Group after a dismal season saw Liverpool finish fifth in the Premier League with just 60 points, their lowest total for a decade.

It brings to an end the Dutchman's two-year reign since he was appointed as Jurgen Klopp's successor in the summer of 2024.

Initially, the transition was seamless as the former Feyenoord boss surpassed all expectations in leading Liverpool to Premier League title glory in his first season at the helm.

However, their fortunes nosedived in 2025-26 with 19 defeats in all competitions, with 12 league losses in comparison to only four the term before.

"That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying," a joint statement from Liverpool's owner's read on Saturday.

"The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and – most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves – successful.

"At the same time, we have collectively come to the conclusion that change is necessary in order for the club to keep moving forward.

"We would like to take this opportunity to place on record our appreciation for Arne, who will always hold a special place in the history of this football club as the coach who delivered Liverpool's 20th league title.

"That accomplishment – made all the more remarkable as it arrived in his very first season in charge – was built on outstanding coaching and leadership every single day.

"He also helped guide the club through one of the most difficult periods imaginable following the loss of Diogo. The compassion and humanity he showed throughout that time said a great deal about him as a person.

"As such, we can only wish Arne well in the next stage of his coaching career, with our expectation being that he will continue to be successful. We do so in the knowledge that his Liverpool legacy is intact and will become yet more meaningful in the years and decades to come.

"Nevertheless, the conclusion we have come to is built on a belief that the team's trajectory is best addressed through a change of direction. That does not diminish the work Arne has done here, or the respect we have for him. Nor is it a reflection of his talents. Rather, it is indicative of the need for a different approach."

Liverpool has reached a verbal agreement with Andoni Iraola to make him their new head coach.

Iraola quickly emerged as the clear favourite to take over at Anfield after Saturday's departure of Arne Slot.

The Spaniard, 43, can be expected to join on a two-year contract, in line with both of the deals he signed while in charge of Bournemouth.

Iraola leaves the South Coast Club when his terms expire at the end of this month, and work continues on the make-up of his backroom staff.

I hope he succeeds, but Klopp started to find out it's unsustainable playing that style of football playing 60 games a season now with the whole league stepping up in terms of quality.

It will be interesting to see how Iraola can adapt his tactics around the extra 20 games a season, especially with Liverpool's injury prone squad.

Just hope they give him more time than what the board and fans gave Slot

The Seattle Seahawks are the Super Bowl Champions, and they are also up for sale.

The Seattle Seahawks were a long-shot champion this season, but they won't be next season. That's not to say the Seahawks can't win it all again, but they just won't be long shots if they do. Seattle opened as the favourite to win next year's Super Bowl on BetMGM. Seattle is currently +800 (8-to-1) to win a second straight title, implying a roughly 11 per cent chance of a repeat. That's a big gap from the 60-to-1 odds Seattle had at the start of this past season.

As for the other contenders, a familiar rival is right behind the Seahawks: the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are +900 (9-to-1) to win the Super Bowl. The Seahawks and Rams met in the NFC Championship Game, which was only decided by four points. All three meetings between the two NFC West powers were decided by one score.

The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens are next up at +1200 (12-to-1). These two teams have been Super Bowl contenders for years thanks to MVP-winning quarterbacks, though both have fallen back a bit (especially Baltimore).

As long as the Bills still have Josh Allen, Buffalo will be among the main contenders. However, with a coaching change and a roster around him that needs some work, it's unclear whether Buffalo will finally break through and win its first Super Bowl.

Lamar Jackson should keep the Ravens in contention, but Derrick Henry is 32 years old with a lot of carries under his belt. The team will have to find Jackson more help to return to contention. Baltimore also underwent a coaching change.

All the teams that sacked their coaches have now found replacements, and all the teams have now entered the offseason and are preparing for the 2026 season.

Atlanta Falcons have officially signed wide receiver Drake London to a lucrative four-year contract extension worth $141 million. At just 24 years old, London has already made a significant impact on the field, showcasing his talent and potential as a key player for the Falcons.

This extension not only secures London's future with the team but also highlights the Falcons' commitment to building a strong roster around him. As he continues to develop his skills, fans can look forward to seeing more of his electrifying plays in the upcoming seasons.

The decision to extend London's contract reflects the organisation's confidence in his abilities and their vision for the team's future. It's an exciting time for both the player and the franchise as they aim for success in the competitive landscape of the NFL.

Since his rookie season, London is 15th in the NFL in receiving yards (3,961), according to TruMedia. In the last two seasons, he is among the top 10 in the league in receiving touchdowns (16), receiving yards per game (75.5), targets (270) and team target percentage (25.5).

His production has been amazing considering who has been throwing the football to him. Well earned payday in my opinion.

Russell Wilson has officially announced his retirement from professional football after an impressive 14-season career in the NFL. Wilson, who recently played for the New York Giants, is now set to embark on a new journey as an analyst for CBS Sports.

This transition marks the end of an era for Wilson, who has been a prominent figure in the league, known for his exceptional skills and leadership on the field. His decision to join CBS Sports signals a new chapter where he will share his insights and experiences with fans and viewers alike.

Wilson will join host James Brown and analysts Nate Burleson and Bill Cowher on "The NFL Today." The network had been looking for a replacement for the spot vacated by Matt Ryan, who left to become the Atlanta Falcons' president of football. Former NFL offensive lineman Kyle Long will also be joining the show. Long is the son of Howie Long, a fixture of Fox's NFL Sunday pre-game show.

The move marks the end of what is likely a Hall of Fame career for Wilson. A third-round draft pick in 2012, the undersized Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to two Super Bowls, winning one in a blowout of the Denver Broncos following the 2013 season. The next season, the Seahawks lost to the New England Patriots after Wilson threw an interception late at the goal line.

After 10 successful seasons in Seattle, the Seahawks traded Wilson to the Broncos in 2022 in a deal that sent back two first-round, two second-round draft choices, one fifth-round pick and three players. But Wilson struggled to recreate the magic he found in Seattle. He played two seasons in Denver, followed by one-season stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Giants.

Wilson ranks fifth in career passer rating among players who have at least 1,500 attempts.

Poor final. The better team won in the end.

Arsenal could have had a penalty in extra-time but I also thought PSG could have had one in the first half when the ball hit an Arsenal player (Saka, I think) on the hand in the box.

Yes, poor final.

A lot of talk about Arsenal not getting a penalty. It would probably have been given in the Premier League but I can see why the referee didn't give it - I thought the attacker had a hold of the defender's arm, which caused a clumsy challenge.

PSG should have had a penalty too, as mentioned, Saka handled the ball at least once, it could have actually hit his hand twice in that one movement.

The Arsenal goal also came from a Trossard block that came off his hands/arms but that wasn't mentioned.

Scotland's head coach Steve Clarke has officially signed a new contract that will keep him at the helm through the next two World Cups and the 2028 Euros. This decision by the Scottish Football Association (SFA) raises some interesting questions about the direction of the national team and the strategies being implemented to boost performance on the international stage.

Clarke's tenure has been marked by significant strides, including securing qualification for major tournaments, which is no small feat. The SFA's decision to extend his contract through 2030 could be seen as a gamble, but it also reflects a commitment to continuity and stability in leadership. By backing Clarke, the SFA is signalling its belief in his vision and his ability to foster a competitive squad capable of challenging on the world stage.

As fans and analysts reflect on this move, it's essential to consider the potential benefits of a long-term approach. A stable coaching presence can foster a cohesive team identity, build player trust, and deepen understanding of tactical systems adaptable to different opponents.

However, this decision is not without its risks. The pressure to deliver results in international competitions is immense, and with the weight of expectations on the team, any setbacks could lead to increased scrutiny of Clarke's methods and decisions.

Ultimately, this contract extension is a bold and strategic choice by the SFA, aiming to build a strong foundation for Scotland's future in international football. It will be interesting to see how this decision plays out in the coming years and whether Clarke can continue to elevate Scottish football to new heights.

Surprised that he's signed before the World Cup. He said that he was 70/75% certain he wouldn't sign a new contract.

In the latest developments surrounding Crystal Palace's managerial search, the club is currently awaiting a response from Andoni Iraola regarding the potential role. Meanwhile, as the situation unfolds, it appears that the club has identified Frank Lampard, the current manager of Coventry City, as a viable alternative should Iraola decide to decline their offer.

This situation raises interesting discussions around managerial choices, especially considering the contrasting styles and experiences of both candidates. Iraola has garnered attention for his time at Rayo Vallecano, where he showcased an attractive brand of football. On the other hand, Lampard, a legendary figure in English football, has been working to establish himself in management, with his recent tenure at Coventry adding to his credentials.

As fans and commentators speculate on the implications of these potential appointments, it's worth contemplating the vision Crystal Palace has for the future. Will they lean towards the fresh ideas of Iraola, or will they choose the experience and familiarity that Lampard brings to the table?

Iraola, or even Thomas Franck, would be a much better option than Frank Lampard, IMO. There is a lot of talk that Iraola could be an option for Liverpool if they move on from Arne Slot but I cannot see that happening. Iraola has also been linked with the job at AC Milan.

Crystal Palace beat Real Vallecano 1-0 to win the Conference League.

Jean-Philippe Mateta fired Crystal Palace to their first European trophy as the Eagles edged out Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final.

The French striker turned home a close-range winner on the rebound from an Adam Wharton strike early in the second half in Leipzig.

Outgoing Palace boss Oliver Glasner leaves the club having led them to the FA Cup, Community Shield and now Conference League in a remarkable two-and-a-half-year spell at Selhurst Park.

Both teams were competing in their first European final and so the cagey start to proceedings at Red Bull Arena - the home of RB Leipzig - was perhaps unsurprising.

Well done, Palace. A magnificent achievement. Glasner did a good job there, winning both the FA Cup and Conference League.

F1 rule changes in full. From Miami onwards

Qualifying - promoting performance
  • Adjustments to energy management parameters, including a reduction in maximum permitted recharge from 8MJ to 7MJ, aimed at reducing excessive harvesting and encouraging more consistent flat-out driving. This change targets a maximum superclip duration reduced to approximately 2-4 seconds per lap.
  • Peak superclip power increased to 350kW, previously being 250kW, further reducing the time spent recharging, and reducing driver workload on energy management. This will also be applied in Race conditions.
  • The number of events where alternative lower energy limits may apply has been increased from 8 to 12 races, allowing greater adaptation to circuit characteristics.
Race - improved safety and consistency of performance
  • The maximum power available through the Boost in race conditions is now capped at +150kW (or the car's current power level at activation if higher) limiting sudden performance differentials.
  • MGU-K deployment is maintained at 350kW in key acceleration zones (from corner exit to braking point, including overtaking zones) but will be limited to 250kW in other parts of the lap.
  • These measures are designed to reduce excessive closing speeds while maintaining overtaking opportunities and overall performance characteristics.
Race starts - enhanced safety mechanisms
  • A new "low power start detection" system has been developed, capable of identifying cars with abnormally low acceleration shortly after clutch release.
  • In such cases, an automatic MGU-K deployment will be triggered to ensure a minimum level of acceleration and mitigate start-related risks without introducing any sporting advantage.
  • An associated visual warning system is being introduced, activating flashing lights (rear and lateral) on affected cars to alert following drivers.
  • A reset of the energy counter at the start of the formation lap has also been implemented to correct a previously identified system inconsistency.
Wet conditions - improving safety and visibility
  • Tyre blanket temperatures for intermediate tyres have been increased following driver feedback in order to improve initial grip and tyre performance in wet conditions.
  • Maximum ERS deployment will be reduced, limiting torque and improving car control in low-grip conditions.
  • The rear light systems have been simplified, with clearer and more consistent visual cues to improve visibility and reaction time for following drivers in poor conditions

Cadillac are reportedly disappointed with Bottas' performances so far this season.

And so is the end of the 25/26 PL season.
