So yesterday marked a full year since lockdown restrictions were first introduced. We've spent the vast majority of that time with those restrictions and even more stringent ones in place but there's now some light at the end of the tunnel and over the next few weeks the country will slowly being to start opening up again.

It was hinted at yesterday that we should expect another surge or wave at some point (parts of Europe are already experiencing a 3rd wave) and most likely we will need a booster jab in the autumn too.

We are already heading into 3rd wave in Ontario it seems. After falling in February, positivity rates are on the way back up. Mercifully, most of our longterm care and retirement homes are vaccinated so maybe we can avoid more tragedies in that sector. However, the vaccination rate in the general community is still pretty low due to slowness in our vaccine distribution system.

An early lifting of some restrictions in Scotland, from this Friday instead of the 26th April, you will be able to travel outwith your local council area and also meet up with 6 people from 6 other households for outdoor activities.

At present no other restrictions will be lifted early and remain as stated in the covid roadmap timetable.

Things are looking up, but not up enough and Ontario is looking at extending the current stay-at-home order, possibly with some modifications, into the first week of June (currently expires May 20). Vaccination rates are much improved and supply is steady now. Me and the missus got our first shots, both Pfizer-BioNTech, about two weeks apart due to the gap in our ages (she's 9 years older).

Unsurprisingly, Glasgow will remain in LEvel 3 lockdown restrictions for at least another week.

What is surprising is that East Renfrewshire hasn't joined Glasgow in the higher level as they have a higher number of cases per 100,000.

Another week where businesses can't fully open. This nonsense is starting to get really, really demoralising :(

I have a feeling they want case numbers as low as possible in Glasgow before the Euros come around. Almost certain it will get brought out of level 3 just in time for the first game.

The UK has reported more than 3,000 new COVID-19 cases - the highest since mid-April.

Some 3,180 cases were recorded in the latest 24-hour period along with nine more coronavirus-related deaths.

The last time there were more than 3,000 daily cases reported was 12 April, when 3,568 infections were revealed

Glasgow to remain in level 3 lockdown for at least another week. The Glasgow-area is nearing 10 months in the strictest restrictions during lockdown.

Glasgow is the only place is Scotland to remain in the stricter lockdown level.
