This invasion has never been about creating a military buffer zone. It is only about trying to crush the notion of freedom, democracy, and sovereign statehood independent of Russia - because this is what Putin fears will otherwise infect - via Ukraine - the Russian people. It's about power and control vs freedom and democracy - nothing else.

Nor is it about NATO "expansion", as if NATO was marching eastward and conquering nations as it goes. Instead it's about sovereign nations voluntarily applying to join NATO in order to better protect themselves from Putin's tyranny.

The irony is, of course, that what will emerge from this is a Ukraine that is more pro-West than ever, even if it has less territory. Eventually, however long it takes, this Ukraine will join the EU and NATO. It's an historical inevitability.

The only viable result is Putin being forced into leaving Ukraine (but not Donbas or Crimea) because sanctions are risking a Russian revolution from within. That is the likeliest and more realistic scenario given that neither side are going to cede any concessions unless they absolutely have to. That means Putin obliterating Ukraine through unprecedented carpet bombing and indiscriminate attacks on all things Ukrainian (including civilians) to force a surrender - or, the scenario in my first sentence that forces Putin to withdraw or else risk being overthrown from within.

No doubt there's propaganda from both sides but the Russian state controlled media are just talking bollocks

If confirmed this could be huge in helping Ukraine defend its capital and other cities.
Will be interesting to see how much of an escalation this causes (if at all)

Although in essence no different to supplying a rifle or anti tank missiles I think supplying Russian made planes to fight against Russia and backfilling that with US planes and presumably US pilots at least until conversion training us undertaken is quite a statement

Probably quite a bit.

I cannot see anything changing with arms supplies even if Putin starts making threats.

Hopefully, they can do some serious damage to the Russians.

You transfer it to SW Germany. How will you get it to Ukraine? American pilots or do they truck them over?
