Having thought about it, surely it must be Lincoln. Anyone else come to mind? Sad Professor Sad Professor might know?
I know Lincoln is the last sitting president to come under fire. I think you're right. All the visits I know of by FDR / LBJ / GWB were to installations away from the action.

I read somewhere that China is reportedly negotiating with Russia to supply kamikaze drones - the U.S. and Germany have warned China not to deliver weapons to Russia, however, Beijing and Moscow are said to be negotiating the purchase of 100 strike drones, which could be delivered as soon as April.
I also believe that China will start to supply the russian army in the near future.
I think the West would rightly see that as extremely provocative by China and it would get a hard response. Nor can I see what China would strategically gain from it. It's one thing to buy Russian oil on the quiet, but this I think would be seen as destabilising.

I would have thought they'd have done it by now if they were going to but you never know what deals are being made between Putin and his allies.

But what would be our response? Can we really give them a hard response without absolutely wrecking ourselves too? Unfortunately, I think China are holding the best cards here.

What the feck?

WASHINGTON — New intelligence reviewed by U.S. officials suggests that a pro-Ukrainian group carried out the attack on the Nord Stream pipelines last year, a step toward determining responsibility for an act of sabotage that has confounded investigators on both sides of the Atlantic for months.

U.S. officials said that they had no evidence President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine or his top lieutenants were involved in the operation, or that the perpetrators were acting at the direction of any Ukrainian government officials.

The explosives were most likely planted with the help of experienced divers who did not appear to be working for military or intelligence services, U.S. officials who have reviewed the new intelligence said."

Russia launched a massive missile barrage on cities across Ukraine, mostly targeting energy facilities.

A barrage of more than 80 Russian missiles and a smaller number of exploding drones hit residential buildings and critical infrastructure across Ukraine on Thursday, killing six people and leaving hundreds of thousands without heat or electricity.

I really hope Putin (and Lavrov) dies a slow and very painful death.

It looks like Bakhmut stabilized a bit after the Russians made bigger advances last week. In the last few days, the Russians are again only crawling forward with huge losses. They took the eastern part of the town, but now the river is a great holding position. UA sent probably considerable reinforcements. At this point, no one can really predict how long the heroic defence can hold there. But the longer they hold, the more men, equipment and armour Russia loses and can't use for other attacks. And the kill/death ratio there is also probably the most favourable of all fronts.

The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Vladmir Putin over alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly denied accusations of such crimes since the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year.

The ICC issued the warrant for Putin's arrest on suspicion of unlawful deportation of children and unlawful transfer of people from the territory of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

Could be huge.

He can't go to any country that is a signatory to the ICC now.

That said, it now puts a bigger target on his back in the context of any internal political strife in Russia.
