Anthony Joshua Daniel Dubois fight loss future

The discussion kicks off with Joshua's shocking defeat to Dubois, where many fans express disbelief over his performance. Critics highlight Joshua's form since his losses to Usyk, suggesting that he appeared gun-shy, lacking the aggression needed in the ring. There is a palpable sense of anxiety among the commentators about Joshua's future in the sport, especially considering the multitude of knockdowns he suffered during the fight.12

As the conversation unfolds, opinions diverge on the implications of Joshua's performance. Some argue that this may signal the end of his career, emphasizing the need for him to reassess his approach or contemplate retirement. Others criticize the lack of urgency in his corner, feeling that they should have pulled him from such a one-sided contest earlier.34

The sentiment shifts slightly as fans begin to discuss potential next steps for Joshua. While some believe he may not have the skill set to reclaim his status, others hold out hope for a comeback. Dubois, credited for his impressive performance, raises questions about how Joshua will deal with future matchups against formidable opponents.56

"Dubios destroyed him there. That was a brilliant performance."

"Thought he was going to stage a comeback them ooof."

DDD literally couldn't miss tonight. 4 knockdowns in 5 rounds.

AJ was lucky not to get stopped earlier. He was saved by the bell twice.

What a punch. AJ had just thrown his best punch of the fight seconds before the lights went out for him.

I'll hold my hands up, I'm no boxing expert. Was AJ shit last night, not arsed and Dubois got him in an off night? Or was Dubois class and went straight out to knack him?

Dubois came out like a man possessed. AJ was poor but I think that's because of how aggressive Dubois was

Combination of a lot of things really. Dubois has always had incredible power but was put in against nobodies early in his career and spent his 15 fights demolishing tin cans when he really needed to be learning his craft - the first time he stepped up against Joyce he didn't really have anything in his arsenal other than go for the knockout, left himself wide open and got brutally picked off. He's had to rebuild, and whilst the potential was always there he never really looked comfortable or looked like he could step up to the elite level. AJ has never liked getting hit, going back to the Klitschko fight in 2017, and notably disappeared into his shell every time he's taken a shot since. He went through a prolonged period of looking incredibly gunshy after losing to Ruiz in 2019 up to knocking out Jermaine Franklin in 2023, but looked closer to his best in the 4 fights since, albeit against poorer opposition. I expected him to stay behind the jab, wait for Dubois to leave himself open - which he frequently does - and spark him. But Dubois came out like a train and rattled him very early on and he had no answer.

So, short answer - Dubois was brilliant and exposed AJ's huge weakness where he goes into panic mode when he takes a shot. You couldn't really say it was poor tactics or a mistake or AJ taking him lightly because Dubois didn't allow him the chance to do anything, he was all over him from the first bell. And AJ deserves some credit because, despite all this, he did rock him with the shot just before the KO and kept getting up every time he was put down.

Regardless of what happens in December, the only place AJ can go next is Fury - there'll always be a huge demand for the fight and it isn't like Wilder where the intrigue is gone. AJ/Hearn will argue Fury doesn't have the brute power Dubois has and wouldn't be able to hunt him down like that. There isn't anywhere else for him after that, it's too late in his career for another rebuild.

Hard to see where Joshua goes from here because after that a rematch seems pointless. He got absolutely blown away.

They knew Joshua was gun shy straight after the first Ruiz fight.

Dubois was the first genuine banger he's fought since and there's the outcome. He's got no chin and even Dubois' mistimed punches were hurting him.

It was over in the first - AJ never recovered from that shot despite lasting a few more rounds

You wonder if he could've been smarter, dug in, slowed it down and just spoiled for 2-3 rounds to try to get his head straight. Maybe he could've got back into it from there, you saw the power was still there right at the death.

Instead, he kept trying to trade and was eating jabs for fun. He was never able to get a foothold in the fight, never looked comfortable at any point.

All the credit to Dubois, he never let up and threw really high quality shots throughout. Peach of a counter to finish. A great performance

I can sort of understand what Joshua is saying. It's not like Dubios is a difficult puzzle to solve but his aggression caught Joshua off guard I reckon, which is a mirror in his performance against Andy Ruiz.

I think the concern for Anthony is his punch resistance (which wasn't fantastic to begin with) is called into question. If there's ever a fighter I worry for when it comes to exchanges it's Joshua when he goes blow for blow with a game opponent his chin never holds up.

Dubios upon reflection didn't even look to have turned his gloves fully over when he was punching, he landed grazing blows and Joshua was rocked.

That's a retirement-level performance not on the premise of the outcome (losing) but the mitigating factor in punch resistance, he has to think about his long-term health.

Anthony Joshua has reiterated he will not retire and says his career is "far from over" after Saturday's defeat to Daniel Dubois.

"We came up short, but we have to look at the positives," Joshua said in a video, released on his social media accounts on Monday.

"Look at what we have achieved in the space of 11 years, it is phenomenal. I want to thank every single one of you has been on a rollercoaster journey with me, but that is far from over!

"We have done it twice and doing it a third time has not been easy but it is something I can achieve and it is about working hard and improving, and it can only come from here (points at heart).

"It has only been a day but I know I have a lot of this (heart) so I want to thank fans for their support and keep your seatbelts tight because deep down, I know I have a lot more to bring to the game.

"We will rise up together."
