The development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been pretty peculiar, to say the least. Announced over a decade ago only to be scrapped soon thereafter, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was re-revealed back in 2018 as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl. The game was looking to finally launch in April of this year, but that will not be the case. It's now been confirmed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been delayed to December 2022.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will now be released on December 8, 2022. Developer GSC Game World made the official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 delay announcement in a post to its Twitter account.

These additional seven months of development are needed to fulfill our vision and achieve the desired state of the game. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is the biggest project in the history of GSC, and it requires thorough testing and polishing. We are convinced that development should take as long as necessary, especially in the case of such a project.

This decision is not an easy one, but we are doing the best possible to deliver you a game that can live up to the expectations

It's hard to ignore the coincidental timing of this delay announcement. Back in December of 2021, GSC Game World announced that they would be implementing NFTs into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, news that was immediately met with strong backlash from fans. GSC quickly backtracked on the decision. It's unknown if the new delay has anything to do with the developer's scrapped NFT plans.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was originally set to launch in April, but has been delayed all the way to December 8, 2022.

Still think this project sets off several alarm bells (not helped by the recent NFT furore), but hopefully extra development times means they'll actually put out a playable game eventually.

This has been delayed several times but I remain optimistic about its release.

A new trailer has emerged over the last few days although I'm disappointed to hear western voices used (as was also the case with Atomic Heart). I'll just have to play with subs!

So the game has been delayed and very little has been said about the eventual release date but I think it will be some time early in 2024 and it would be nice if they released some information at the upcoming Game Awards. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

A new trailer has been released and Strider is back in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl ☢️⁠

After numerous delays, GSC Game World has good news. The team confirms the game has reached the eagerly awaited Gold Phase, putting an end to further delays.



The release date is set for 20 November 2024 on Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl can be preloaded now on Xbox so that you're ready to play when the big day comes around.

There is a catch, though, as the game comes in at an absolutely massive 146.58GB, which puts it right up there with some of the largest games on the platform.

I preloaded Stalker 2, a few days ago. It was massive - 140gb. Now, today it wants another update. The update size? 139gb!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying it. I want to like it after all the devs have been through, but I'm doubtful I will. From the little I've seen, I don't think it's my cup of tea, but it's on GP so, I'll give it a go.

Is anyone else checking it out?
