After reading this fascinating piece about how pets boost mental wellbeing, I felt inspired to share it here. 🐾 The stat that 83% of pet owners say their pet supports their mental health really hit home.

Honestly, my cat Lulu has helped me through some of my darkest days. Her quiet presence is sometimes more comforting than words.

Do you feel your pets support your mental health? Or have you hesitated to get one for that reason?

Totally agree, Bianca Bianca. I've gone through some torrid times, and my dogs were the only reason I got out of bed some mornings. Walks gave me structure, and they made the house feel less empty. Oh, and the talks we used to have ❤️ 🐶

Love this. I have two rescue rabbits and people always laugh when I say they've helped my anxiety. But watching them munch hay or flop on their side is oddly calming!

Dogs = therapy in fur. Mine knows when I'm off and just lies by me. Doesn't try to fix anything, just stays.

Yes! My dog literally senses when I'm on edge. She'll nudge my hand or rest her head on my lap. Instant reset.

Genuine question. Do pets ever add stress though? I mean vet bills, cleaning, training - doesn't that sometimes outweigh the mental health benefits?

I think what's amazing is how universal this seems to be. Cats, dogs, birds, guinea pigs… even fish. There's something about caring for another creature that brings you back to earth.

I can confirm that my cat has zero interest in my emotional wellbeing 😂 He's here for snacks and chaos. But somehow, even that makes me smile when I'm low.

All of this is reminding me of a quote: "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened."

I've always been a cat person until recently. I got my first dog during a bad phase. She forced me into nature daily, and slowly I felt myself returning.

Sometimes I think pets don't just make us better - they show us how to be better. Patience, empathy, being present.
