GTA VI hype collides with delays, leaks, and pricing anxiety
5/10 Mixed views

The post provides some relevant information about the upcoming trailer but lacks detail and context that would engage the community more fully.

› mixed › heated › consensus
release date trailer Vice City pre-orders pricing microtransactions

The thread opens with anticipation and skepticism in equal measure, as participants react to the long gap since the last game, the first trailer, and Rockstar’s reputation for squeezing a franchise. Several posters praise the visuals and world-building, but many immediately question whether the gameplay, structure, and character switching will feel fresh enough to justify the wait.12

Mid-thread discussion turns sharper around repeated delay reporting, leaked details, and speculation about what Rockstar is really planning. Posters debate everything from age verification and map expansion to weapon limits and whether the publisher is protecting shareholder value more than players. The mood is increasingly defined by frustration over timing, monetization, and the possibility of further postponements.34

Later posts become more concrete as official information arrives: the release date, pre-orders, editions, platform details, trailer 2, and a longer reveal. That shifts the thread toward shared admiration for the game’s scale and presentation, while concerns remain about price, online features, and whether the final experience will match the hype. By the end, the group largely agrees the game looks impressive, even if trust in Rockstar is still fragile.56

"I think they need to shake up the gameplay mechanics tbh."

"I reckon it will cost about $100, so what's that, £70/80 in the UK?"

Verdict

The thread reaches broad agreement that GTA VI looks ambitious and technically impressive, but confidence in Rockstar remains mixed because of delays and monetization concerns. Nothing is fully settled beyond the release details; excitement is high, yet skepticism about price, polish, and post-launch plans persists.

There will be some hype around this game's release whenever that is. But Rockstar has earned the right to exploit it...GTA and RDR are wonderful games.

And they sure know how to exploit.

I'm surprised there's so much hype about the announcement of a trailer given the gameplay leaks and the sheer length of time they've spent milking GTA V dry before releasing this.

That said, I'll still definitely play it as soon as it's released

I just can't get excited for this. Rockstar have burned any faith I had in them when their lack of single player dlc, zero effort releases and intent on milking online. But at the same time I'm sure they can do something special, but society is very different now so I wonder how they'll present everything.

My prediction is they'll just show the usual jump cuts of the city with some people walking and cars driving to some song and people will say it's the most amazing game ever.

I am both excited and curious to see what this trailer shows.

Everyone knows it will look better - but V still looks good right now.

Everyone also knows the type of missions etc that these games have.

So what is going to be the surprise or the hook?

My feeling is that the game is nearer release than many people think.

Yeah I think it might be closer too. Maybe late 2024 release.

I'm kinda hoping they bring back some older elements whilst improving the actual gameplay loop. I really liked that you could bulk-up/get fat in San Andreas. It meant there was such a variety in how everyone's characters looked. Keep the hair growth things from RDR2 as well. It felt quite satisfying having to grow it out if you wanted it long and it actually felt like a decision to cut it short eventually.

Also just allow more freedom in missions. Not so on rails please.

I think they need to shake up the gameplay mechanics tbh. As great as both GTA V and RDR2 were, the gameplay mechanics were beginning to show their age with how formulaic and rigid they were. It seems Rockstar has stuck to the same script in all their missions for years now - drive/ride to point A, kill/steal person/item X, run away or go to point B. Detract away from the script and it's an immediate mission fail.

I want to see them offer a bit more creativity and open-ended approaches to the objectives, and perhaps some impactful choices. I don't want or expect it to be a fully-fledged RPG necessarily but I feel like some creative freedom would be very welcome.
