EFL team performance managerial changes administration promotion chances

The thread opens with discussions about the league table and the promotion chances of various teams, particularly focusing on Middlesbrough and their competitive squad in the Championship. Fans express optimism about the season, highlighting strong midfield performance. As the conversation progresses, concerns arise regarding Sheffield Wednesday's financial troubles, leading to their filing for administration and sanctions from the EFL.12

As the thread develops, the tone becomes more heated with news of multiple managerial sackings and rumors swirling around the league. Fans weigh in on the decisions, particularly the impact on teams like Norwich and Swansea, fueling debate about the effectiveness of recent club leadership and direction. The prospect of new managerial appointments introduces a sense of hope for improvement, contrasted by ongoing worries for clubs like Sheffield Wednesday facing severe challenges.34

In the later posts, announcements of new coach appointments for several teams provide a glimpse of potential recovery strategies. However, skepticism surrounds certain moves, such as Rob Edwards leaving Middlesbrough amidst these changes. Discussion about the future of various clubs continues, with mixed feelings about the best paths forward as teams look to stabilize and aim for promotion.56

"I actually see it as a step forward."

"They sit 18th in the Championship after winning just one of their last seven league games."

The thread captures a turbulent moment in the EFL, with significant managerial turnover and the uncertainty of several clubs' futures. While some fans express hope for new leadership, the overall situation remains precarious, especially for those in administration.

What has happened to Norwich this season?
Norwich City have sacked head coach Liam Manning following a seventh successive home defeat, which has left them second bottom of the Championship.

The 40-year-old was appointed in June, having guided Bristol City to the play-offs last season, but lasted just 17 games.

His final match in charge was Saturday's 2-1 loss against Leicester City. They have not won in 11 and have lost eight in a row at home in league and cup.

"We have tried absolutely everything possible to work through this incredibly challenging period but, unfortunately, given the recent run of results and performances, we have been left with no choice other than to make a change at this stage," said sporting director Ben Knapper.

"Liam and his staff worked tirelessly to move our football club forward. They are all fundamentally good people and we wish them the very best in whatever comes next."

Another manager sacked today. Swansea City manager Alan Sheehan has been sacked, the club have confirmed. The Irishman has presided over the South Wales club's worst start to a campaign since they were relegated from the Premier League in 2018. They sit 18th in the Championship after winning just one of their last seven league games.

Rob Edwards is set to leave Middlesbrough and be appointed Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

There is club-to-club agreement over a compensation fee of around £3million for the 42-year-old, whose existing Middlesbrough deal was due to run through to 2028, with discussions now ongoing over the make-up of Edwards' new coaching team.

Massive blow for Middlesbrough.

I didn't realise Rob Edwards was an ex-Wolves player.

He might have been better off staying at Middlesboro and fighting for promotion because Wolves looked doomed.

The administrators running Sheffield Wednesday have received an extraordinary enquiry from the owners of Sheffield United, asking about a possible deal to merge the two rival clubs.

Wednesday is currently up for sale, with an asking price believed to be in excess of £30m, after previous owner Dejphon Chansiri put the club into administration at the end of last month, incurring an automatic 12-point deduction in the Championship.

It is possible the enquiry was a spoof, but there has so far been no comment from COH Sports when they were contacted for clarification.

Furthermore, it has been made clear that neither the EFL nor the new Football Regulator would allow such a merger to happen.

WTF. Sheffield United owners either are not familiar with the history of the two clubs or are doing a strange PR stunt, surely? Has any merger between two English clubs of this size and especially local rivals, ever successfully happened before?

Southampton have announced Tonda Eckert as their new permanent First Team Head Coach, signing a contract until 2027.

He probably deserves a chance. He has had a good run, winning four of their five games since taking charge on an interim basis at the start of November.
