Max Verstappen edged out Charles Leclerc to secure pole position for Sunday's Sao Paulo Grand Prix before a storm hit qualifying.

Rain was expected for the qualifying session, but the first two segments took place in dry conditions. With only tiny gaps separating the field, a hectic battle kicked off already in the opening qualifying stages.

Weather conditions changed dramatically in the final minutes of qualifying and caught several drivers out, before a heavy deluge of rain swept across the Interlagos circuit to bring Q3 to an early end.

Ahead of the heavy downpour, Verstappen clocked in a 1m10.727s which was six tenths of a second slower than what he managed in Q2, but it was enough to take pole position for Sunday's Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc looked quick all though the session, and was able to secure the second starting position on the grid.

* George Russell, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly have been hit with two-place grid penalties for Sunday's São Paulo Grand Prix after being found guilty of pit-lane impeding. They will now start 8th, 14th and 15th respectively on the grid.

Three-time world champion Max Verstappen sealed another victory by beating polesitter Lando Norris to win the sprint race in Brazil. Sergio Perez took a controlled third place in the 100km dash in Sao Paulo.

Should be a good race tomorrow.

One of the absolute classic tracks this, right up their with Spa, Monaco, Monza etc.

Just started watching this live - 4 cars out including Leclerc - Verstappen leading from Norris and Alonso witrh Perez closing in on 3rd place.

Everybody looks faster than the Mercedes here for some reason.
