Mirage marks the series return to the more stealthy gameplay that Assassin's Creed is enamoured for, with players primarily roaming Baghdad as they engage in parkour, stealth their way around the districts, and take part in some slick close-range combat. Mirage will also arrive in a smaller package with a shorter campaign length than recent Assassin's Creed titles, but it looks like it's bound to pack a punch.

Here's a closer look at 9th-century Baghdad and protagonist, Basim Ibn Ishaq.

Assassins Creed Mirage looks beautiful. I think the AC artists have got a LOT of talent. And the tech engine is pretty solid too.

But it does not seem different from the other recent AC games.

I really liked AC Origins, and in 4k/60 FPS it is gorgeous. The other 2 recent games are bloat city.

If this new game can really refine the gameplay and world then it'll be worth playing. And if you wait a year it'll be 20 quid.

Yeah, I agree the last couple of Assassin's Creed games have been disappointing and a bit samey.

I'll probably wait and buy this when the price drops unless I can get a big discount on a special edition pre-order from Turkey/Brazil/Argentina.

Ubisoft has surprised fans with the announcement of a new free DLC set to arrive later this year. This exciting update will introduce a new story chapter and missions located in the historical setting of 9th-century AlUla, a city rich in Arabian heritage.

In addition to the new content, Ubisoft will implement gameplay improvements for the base game, enhancing the overall player experience without any additional cost. This free content release reflects the company's commitment to providing value to its player base.

Interestingly, the announcement comes in the wake of reports indicating Ubisoft's financial ties to Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), which has invested in various gaming companies to diversify its revenue streams. The involvement of the PIF, chaired by the controversial Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, raises questions about the implications of such partnerships within the gaming industry, particularly in light of the country's human rights record.

Despite these concerns, the new DLC is poised to expand on the engaging gameplay that fans have come to appreciate, as evidenced by the positive reception of the base game, which earned a four-star review for its captivating environment and classic Assassin's Creed mechanics.

Ubisoft has surprised fans with the announcement of a new free DLC set to arrive later this year. This exciting update will introduce a new story chapter and missions located in the historical setting of 9th-century AlUla, a city rich in Arabian heritage.
Ubisoft has announced that a new free DLC for Assassin's Creed: Mirage, titled "Valley of Memory," will be released on November 18th. This expansion is set to enhance the game significantly, adding approximately six hours of new gameplay and story content.

In "Valley of Memory," players will join the protagonist Basim on an adventure that precedes the main game's conclusion. The narrative kicks off when Basim learns that his long-lost father may still be alive in AlUla. His quest for the truth soon intertwines with the threat posed by a gang of robbers, further complicating his search.

Key features of this DLC include:

Replayable Missions and Challenges
  • Players can replay black box missions and contracts, accessing them via the "Animus Sequences" menu.
  • Special challenges will be introduced for each replay, encouraging diverse gameplay styles and offering exclusive in-game rewards for completion.
Enhanced Parkour Mechanics
  • A new manual jumping feature will allow for more intricate free-running moves.
  • Improved controls will facilitate smoother transitions between rooftops, and players can now execute side and back ejections regardless of landing spots.
Difficulty and Customisation Options
  • Two new difficulty levels will be available, alongside Skill and Tool Customisation options.
  • A new skill, Engineer 2, has been added to Basim's skill tree, enabling him to equip level 1 modifications to his tools.
This update not only enriches the gameplay experience but also promises to deepen player engagement with the world of Assassin's Creed: Mirage.

AC Mirage: Valley of Memory is now live, and brings with it a massive patch for the base game as well.

We're looking at roughly a 32GB update on Xbox Series X|S here, with the aforementioned DLC delivering "over six hours of additional content" to Mirage players. Here's the setup for Valley of Memory (Ubisoft does warn that this introduction may include spoilers for the main game):

"Set before the finale of Mirage's main narrative, Valley of Memory is a free story expansion for Assassin's Creed Mirage that begins with a mysterious lead: Basim hears rumours that his long-lost father may still be alive. After speaking with his old friend, Dervis, Basim sets out for AlUla - a land of secrets, ancient ruins, and vibrant oases.

To begin the Valley of Memory questline, players will need to have started the "Head of the Snake" mission in the base game. Players can also choose to skip ahead in the story directly from the main menu when starting a new game. Speak with Dervis to begin your journey to the Valley of Memory."

The DLC's AlUla location also brings a new region to the game with its own map to explore, side content to uncover and activties to complete. One such activity is a collection of Oud Melodies; songs to discover that Ubisoft compares to "the sea shanties in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag".

Alongside this expansion-based content, today's hefty patch also brings numerous changes and additions to the base game - including new parkour mechanics such as the ability to free jump, a new mission replay feature, two new difficulty levels and more. You can check out the changes in more detail via the Ubisoft blog post, and we'll throw the update's accompanying patch notes down below as well.
