Just on the point of the job being too big for him, and that he should have turned it down...I have some sympathy's for him on that.

He took on the job at a Chelsea that was taking a different approach, with much lower expectations. With a young squad, and a transfer ban, it was less outlandish for them to offer it, and for him to take it on. Now, yes, it was still well above his experience level, but it wasn't the top tier title-challenging Chelsea we'd known for the previous 15 years - it was more of a Chelsea in hibernation.

But then Covid happened, and Granovskaia and Abramovic saw the opening to use their cash reserves to get players in that were otherwise out of their league, and the job suddenly transformed into something totally different from what Lampard was signed up for.

He did average last year, when average was ok. Now he's doing somewhat similarly, while expectations have risen significantly higher than they were. It just sort of is what it is. If this was the squad they had back at the time when they hired him, he wouldn't have been in the conversation.

Lampard did a good job last season so I think he deserved more time. A guy like him, in his first big role, needs time to make his mistakes and learn from them. Sadly, at the top end of English football, you don't get that courtesy so he should never have gotten the job in the first place because he was always going to hit a patch like this.

I don't blame him for taking the job, anyone would. This is the fault of those who appointed him. If they were appointing a novice thinking he'd never have a spell like this, they don't know what they're doing.

Chelsea hope to have Thomas Tuchel in place before their match against Wolves on Wednesday

Can someone explain to me what Tuchel has done to deserve the Chelsea job?

- Won a German cup at Dortmund and sacked
- Won 2 leagues and a cup at PSG and sacked

To me, it looks like he has the same managerial record as Emery did before moving to Arsenal, except Emery had also won 3 Europa Leagues.

Given his record of falling out with players and/or upper management I can see him having a similar run to Sarri.

Managers (and people in general) are more than just a two line summary.

I daresay the folks doing the hiring might be taking a deeper look than the above into how his teams play, and what he brings to the table.

You can't take any two people with similar results or paths, and just assume that everything else about them is equal. Life doesn't work like that. He's had a solid career thus far (can add Champions League final into your list), and I suspect is being chosen for this job as he's particularly known for his progressive attacking approach to the game, and detailed engaging training sessions - which were the major criticisms of Frank. Also has a good record of developing youth (including Chelsea's own Pulisic), and coming up with tactical solutions to get the most out of his players.

BREAKING: Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as Chelsea's new head coach.

Being German probably helped – it will interesting to see if he can get Havertz, Werner and Rudiger playing well again

He took PSG to a Champions League final when prior to him they were bottlers in the knockout rounds.

He also managed to keep arguably the biggest dressing room of egos in football largely happy (although he does have a tendency to take issue with the board so that's one to keep an eye on).

Plays good, attacking football which Abramovich demands.

Has the ability to get the most out of players. Turned Bernat into one of the best LBs in Europe last season, managed to turn Choupo-Moting from a Stoke reject into a player Bayern desired. He could be key to getting the most out of his compatriots Werner and Havertz.

He's fluent in English, French and German so he should be able to communicate his ideas well to the squad. I think he can be their best coach since Conte.
