Current Covid restrictions are to remain in place in Scotland until at least July 19th with no mainland areas moving to the lowest "level zero" restrictions next week.
9th of August seems to be our freedom day.

RIght now, Ontario is looking at moving to our "Stage 2" of reopening on July 2 (though I suspect our premier will bump it back a day to make it happen on Canada Day). If they stick with the current plan, Stage 3 follows 3 weeks later. We have already achieved the vaccination levels needed to move to Stage 3, so it is just a matter of time and case load continuing to drop. Which is proceeding nicely. My health unit, which has around 400,000-450,000 population has been in single digits for most of the past week, save a spike due to a hospital outbreak.

On a more personal note, second dose is in my arm so I shall be considered "fully vaccinated" in a couple weeks. Ape happy. ?

Over 16,000 positive cases (the highest since February 2021) and now they are worried about a new mutation - the "delta plus" variant which targets the lungs.

Over half of the students at work are isolating once again, and we've got a "mobile lab" visiting tomorrow to carry out PCR tests on any students/staff that have given consent.

We have a student who is in hospital because COVID has attacked his lungs, and a teacher who has been doubled jabbed but still managed to contract the virus and is pretty unwell.. Scary times again.

Boris Johnson has announced that face masks will no longer be legally required and distancing rules will be scrapped at the final stage of England's Covid lockdown roadmap. The final decision on lockdown easing will be made on 12th July.

I wonder if Scotland will announce similar easing plans?

I wonder if Scotland will announce similar easing
I doubt we will see any lifting of rules on face masks, they will still be required on public transport and in shops I'd imagine. Social distancing will probably remain until the beginning of August too.

Over 32000 cases today.

Read somewhere that the scientists expect 100000 to be infected by the end of July!!

I think the government has reached the stage where they need to fully open the economy and hope that the vaccine will keep the NHS from getting swamped with patients with coronavirus - risky to say the least!

Face coverings will still be mandatory as the number of cases are falling but are still high.
Up to 8 people from 4 households indoors

The whole of the United Kingdom is going to end up with covid the way things are going!

Now back over 40000 positive cases a day

Almost all of Scotland's remaining Covid-19 restrictions are to end from 9 August.

Social distancing will be dropped in most settings, meaning more capacity in pubs and restaurants and larger crowds at sporting events and concerts.

And close contacts of those who test positive for Covid will no longer have to self-isolate - as long as they are fully vaccinated and test negative.

However, the wearing of face coverings in some public spaces will continue. The use of face coverings in enclosed spaces like shops, hospitality venues and public transport will remain "for some time" to come, and venues will still be expected to collect customer details for contact tracing.
