The emergence of the Omicron variant has seen the return of restrictions across the UK.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a full lockdown soon.

We're really never getting out of this are we? 22 months in and despite the vast majority being double/triple dosed restrictions and vaccine mandates still rear their ugly head.

If you live in Scotland you are now being advised to "defer" on your Christmas parties as omicron cases continue to rise.

Cases are soaring again, nearly 60,000 positive cases report in the UK in the last 24 hours period. Over 5,000 in Scotland which is the highest for a long time.

Record number of positive cases in a 24 hour period with 78,610 new cases being registered today.

Things are going to get worse over the next few weeks with some experts predicting over 100,000 cases by Christmas.

Wales introducing new measures.

Nightclubs will close after Boxing Day and social distancing will be required in offices to limit Omicron variant.

New rules coming into effect in Scotland
  • From 26 December, for up to three weeks, there will be a limit on the size of live public events in Scotland - 500 for outdoor events, indoors 200 seated or 100 standing.
  • This will mean sports such as football matches will have to take place without spectators and large-scale Hogmanay celebrations, such as Edinburgh's world-famous party, will be cancelled.
  • The restrictions do not apply to private life events, such as weddings.
  • From 27 December for three weeks all hospitality venues in Scotland will have to operate on a table service only basis if they serve alcohol.
  • Groups of people will be limited to three households.
  • There will also be a rule on 1-metre physical distancing.

Not really sure what is happening in England anymore. Not sure the government do either.

Over 320000 new cases of Covid in the last 3 days (experts say the true figure will be higher) and hospitalisations are at the highest level since March but the government refuses to bring in new rules until after the new year.

I'm still wearing my mask and limiting my social activity.

Beginning to look like nearly all restrictions will be lifted in the UK by the end of January. There may still be the requirement to wear face masks on public transport and in shops for a bit but I expect the work from home rule and social distancing restrictions to be lifted in Scotland and Wales in the next few weeks to bring them in line with England.

Hopefully, we don't see another covid strain and outbreak but if there is another one then not until long into 2022

Hope so, from a business sense although I'd still be very wary of completely relaxing the rules - other, stronger variants than Omicron are bound to surface.

I'd still have to keep some restrictions in place if it would make people more comfortable and feel safer.
