gameplay delays patches performance feedback

At launch, Cyberpunk 2077 faced a significant backlash due to numerous performance issues and bugs, particularly on last-gen consoles. Many fans expressed disappointment and concerns about delays, with mixed reactions to the gameplay footage revealed prior to release.12

As discussions evolved, players shared their experiences post-launch, revealing both positive and negative aspects of gameplay. While some players appreciated unique storytelling elements and immersive side quests, others were disillusioned by technical issues, leading to requests for refunds and class action lawsuits.34

In response to community feedback, CD Projekt Red committed to fixing the game, launching multiple patches and updates that have gradually improved performance. Many users now express hope for the game's future, especially with the anticipation of upcoming DLC and updates.56

"If nothing else, it should be a nail in the coffin of the idea that CDPR are some uniquely ‘gamer friendly’ company."

Verdict

Cyberpunk 2077's launch was rocky, but ongoing updates indicate a path toward improvement. Many players are optimistic about future content despite initial disappointments.

A few videos and some info released today at the end of the Summer of Gaming Expo.

There's a new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 and it shows off footage from the game's prologue.

During today's Night City Wire Livestream, CD Projekt Red showed off new footage of Cyberpunk 2077.

In the video, you are given a look at the world, characters, story, and action taking place in Night City. It also shows the beginnings of the mercenary career of V, the cyber-enhanced outlaw you will be playing come November.

Those who can't get enough of Cyberpunk 2077 will be able to enjoy an anime called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix next year.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime coming to Netflix in 2022, and it was produced by CD Projekt Red and animated by Japan-based animation company, Studio Trigger.

The team at CDPR has been working on this new series since 2018. The original score will be composed by Akira Yamaoka known for the Silent Hill series.

"We are so excited to finally reveal that we are working on an anime in the Cyberpunk world," said Adam Badowski, Cyberpunk 2077 game director and CDPR head of studio.

"We've devoured just about all the cyberpunk fiction there is to watch, read, and play; it's a genre that leaves so much room for creativity, and has had such a strong influence on us. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is our love letter to cyberpunk as a whole, and to stories told in animated form."

And a brand new trailer was revealed to show off the dark setting of Night City, featuring some gameplay snippets in first-person. There was also a fair deal of drugs, guns, blood, sex, and gangs, of course, all edited to be quick and flashy. Jackie, one of the characters made several appearances throughout.

The gameplay snippets showed off some driving, shooting, fighting, and even some general world interactions. We also got to see some exploration outside of the city, where they can explore and tune up their ride. You also get to see what is the start of a mercenary career for V, the protagonist.

Below are the different life paths for V

You know after years of hype, an almost mythical status given its long development period, and some of those pretty spectacular early, concept trailers, it's always a bit of a shock when I see more footage and it looks exactly like.....an open world video game

I mean the production values are off the scale, and obviously, the key will be how dynamic and surprising it is when we play the darn thing...but yeah a lot of the gameplay footage released today looks pretty ordinary in the end, albeit with an extraordinary level of visual detail and polish. I mean, driving a car around a city will always be driving a car around a city but I find it interesting to see the reality of the game after such a long time.

To be fair, you can boil the Witcher 3 down to just another open-world game as well. And that's fine, as it just does what it does extremely well.

Cyberpunk will be made or broken by how the gameplay feels, and it's storytelling.

Indeed, and honestly as much as I like The Witcher 3 I find much of its moment-to-moment gameplay - traversal, combat, investigating - reasonably staid. It's the sheer luxurious detail, technology, world design and world-building that makes it so compelling, plus some great writing.

Obviously impossible to tell at this stage how Cyberpunk will play over many dozens of hours, and I'm keen to find out. No question it looks like a major step up in graphical fidelity - the animations and character art look stunning, alongside the neon-hued world. But yeah it'll certainly be great to see if the gameplay design matches that level of ambition - something a clip of a car driving down a street can't show ?

I love the fact you can accept missions by doing a video call with people and hand in data files by sending through your phone. The worst part of 'sandbox games is travelling A to B to get a mission and then travelling back to B after the mission to hand it in.

During its Night City Wire stream, CD Projekt Red provided a more detailed look at the gangs in Cyberpunk 2077.

The gangs are 6th Street, Animals, Maelstrom, Moxes, Tyger Claw, Valentinos, and Voodoo Boys. You've seen some of these gangs in action before in previous videos, with last year's gamescom gameplay demo showing off a mission with the Voodoo Boys.

But this one gives you a bit more insight into each one.

CD Projekt Red has delayed Cyberpunk 2077 by 21 days to December 10.

According to CD Projekt Red, the extra time will give the team time to prepare and test all versions of the game.

This includes the current-gen versions, PC, next-gen, and Stadia.

"Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly," said the studio.

"We are aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make such a difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do."

The studio goes on to say that it is working on improvements that will be included with a day one patch. According to CDPR, the studio "undercalculated."

This is the third time the game has been delayed, with the original date set for April. It was then moved into September before being moved yet again into November.

It's so strange to hear of a game delayed after it goes gold. You would think that the game is in an acceptable condition with any day one patching being mostly tidying up.

I wonder does that mean any of the physical copies still have pretty serious issues.
