USA still looks like the best team.
Spain and Japan have started well too. Hard to know how good any of them are until we see them against strong opposition. Long tournament ahead though and that's always been one of the USA's strengths.

I've bet on Germany to win the whole thing - Spain and USA probably main threats

I was surprised to wake up to a Phillipines win this morning, I assumed New Zealand would be first team through.

A 0-0 draw between Switzerland and Norway means that all teams could still qualify from the group but Norway, surprisingly, currently sit bottom with only one point.

PGDPts
Switzerland 2+24
New Zealand 203
Phillipines 2-13
Norway 2-11

Still to play

Norway v Phillipines
New Zealand v. Switzerland

Japan and Spain are through after beating Costa Rica and Zambia respectively.

Japan are looking good this World Cup!

They play some very good, attacking football, as they have done for past W/C tournaments, though in the past, they've had a tendency to do just enough to get through games, and they often left you feeling they should be doing much more in games & much better in tournaments.

I can see them reaching the quarter or semi final at best, this time around.

Spain put five goals past Zambia but they could've had double figures if they hadn't decided to rest for the middle third of the game.

Great match between the USA and Netherlands. Finished 1-1 but the best match of the tournament so far.

Nigeria beat Australia, coming from behind to win 3-2 and move closer to the knockout rounds, while the co-hosts are nudged towards a group stage exit.

This, for me, has been the best match so far.

Another narrow 1-0 win for England. Being as wasteful as that will get them killed against tougher opponents.

Sweden secure their place in the knockout stages after a comprehensive 5-0 win over Italy in Wellington.

Great goal from Lauren James.

England got away with it in the end. Great start, decent first half but only one goal and enough weak links in the second half to make it an edgy affair in the end.

Losing Keira Walsh to injury is a massive blow to their chances going forward

Germany v Colombia was a lot of fun yesterday, Colombia winning deep into injury time.

Japan hammer Spain 4-0 to win their group.

And co-hosts Australia put 4 past Canada to win their group. Canada have had a terrible tournament. They're much better than they have showed here but perhaps the off-field wrangling with their federation has had an effect.

Nigeria and Colombia have blown the groups open a bit now so it's hard to predict where the draw will go!
