Those pesky little flies that mainly fly around the kitchen. I think they are known as fruit flies.

Has anyone on here ever effectively got rid of them?

I'm being driven mad. We've had a few flying around for a while. I've cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. They still come back. Today I got an easy to use trap from Amazon. Basically open lid, shake, dry yellow funnel, done.

Oh no though! Not my fruit flies as they are super clever. First, I opened lid but left it next to the trap. Went and had a bath, came back and the little feckers were on the bleeding rim of the lid. Not in the trap!!

Binned the lid. Went away again, came back and one was just trotting around the funnel.

Fuming. Pisstakers

We've had them for weeks in the summer and couldn't figure out where they were coming from, until a video randomly popped up on Eily's Instagram which said it was "gnat season" and to pour boiling water down your plug holes as that's where they lay their eggs.

So we poured bleach down the sink and boiled the kettle about a half a dozen times to make sure they were all gone. Haven't seen any since.

Apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar) and washing up liquid on a saucer gets them.

Try washing any fruit you buy when you get them home (especially bananas).

We had a bout of them - started with over ripe bananas. Thought we'd solved it by putting everything either in plastic containers or the fridge. Amazed to open the fridge and find three of them flying around. Seems OK now, but this must be on the increase, haven't changed our food storage habits and never had this before.
