This is a shocker.

Klopp is such a genuinely brilliant manager that replacing him will be very difficult. Xabi Alonso seems the best option for them. He will do well. But Klopp has the unique ability to inspire his team to come back from the pits. This season is a testament to that power. Give him a couple of years to recharge. I'm sure he'll return to management. Maybe as Head Coach of Germany. I have nothing but respect for his teams. What a guy.

Wow, did not expect this.

He took an average, broken Liverpool and made an elite team out of it with limited resources.

Wonderful manager.

What a loss, not just for Liverpool but the Premier League. I had a lot of fun watching his side. He'll go down in history as one of the Anfield greats.

Surely Xabi Alonso is the man to go for!

I'm shocked but.....

There is a logic to the decision as the squad rebuild has happened sooner than expected. I think it makes sense to get the next manager in while this side is still establishing its identity, so he can come in and implement a new system.

All of that said, I'm gutted. What a brilliant manager. What a wonderful human. I hope the team can send him off in style with some silverware, especially the league title.

Klopp leaving is a big loss for Liverpool but also a big loss for the Premier League.

Even fans from rival clubs have admitted this so it just goes to show the respect he has around the league with a lot of fanbases.

Quite gutted about this - Klopp is a strong, likeable character and has been great for the Premiership - especially the rivalry with Pep.

It is possible FSG have already made the next appointment. Klopp informed them back in November and the obvious replacement was Pep Lijnders but he, Peter Krawietz and Jorg Schmadtke are all leaving suggesting to me that FSG have done their due diligence and already selected the new team. Klopp would have been consulted about this also. If Xabi Alonso is not the new manager I'd be amazed.

Sad to see him go. His love for the club. His connection with the players and the supporters was evidently very warm. Will be sad to also lose his footballing style from the EPL.

Being able to leave Liverpool in a good place means everything to him.

This is Klopp's personality shining right through. Didn't want to leave the club in a state of limbo, wanted to leave the next manager with a good foothold of success and a great team.

I wasn't born in the days of Shankly or Paisley, Klopp is definitely the best Liverpool manager in my lifetime!
