The Carpenters have always been a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.

Listening to Karen's voice on earphones, stunning and heartbreaking. So much yearning in her delivery.

One of the best female vocalists.

The last song she ever recorded is called Now, it's on their last album. It was recorded a week or so before she died. It was meant to be a quick test, just to see what it sounded like, not an actual proper vocal performance. It's simply exquisite. She was absolutely brilliant.

Rainy Days and Mondays is her best, but a shout out to Desperado.

I remember back in the day when I was into rock music....Zeppelin, Free, Deep Purple and the like I pretended I didn't like The Carpenters as it wasn't cool.

Then I heard Goodbye to Love and I just said f*ck it, I couldn't care who knows I like them.

One of the most sensational pop records ever.

I Won't Last A Day Without You is my favourite but rarely gets mentioned.



This guilty pleasure malarkey is nonsense. Why be ashamed of your musical tastes? A tune either resonates with you or it doesn't and its coolness, or lack of it, should be of no consideration.
