Mass Effect Legendary Edition reignites passion for the classic trilogy
8/10 Mixed views

The post provides a clear and detailed overview of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition and includes direct quotes from the developers, which adds value. However, it could benefit from a more concise structure and a summary of the relevance to the community.

constructive heated consensus
Mass Effect Legendary Edition remaster gameplay updates community reactions

The announcement of Mass Effect Legendary Edition generated significant excitement in the community, with fans eager for a remaster of their beloved trilogy. The release date was confirmed, stirring nostalgia and providing a fresh opportunity to revisit the games.12

However, not all reactions were positive. Some fans expressed disappointment that the remaster only included graphical updates rather than a full remake, citing concerns over certain gameplay mechanics from the original titles that may not hold up.34

Despite mixed feelings about the remaster itself, many participants shared their experiences with the original trilogy, discussing character choices and gameplay preferences. Overall, the community displayed a strong appreciation for the profound storytelling that Mass Effect offers.56

"The story is great and I don't really think a game like this has been made since."

Verdict

While some fans criticize the limitations of the remaster, there is a clear consensus on the series' lasting impact. The thread reveals a community eager to celebrate and engage with the Mass Effect franchise.

Bioware has announced the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which is a remastered version of the Mass Effect trilogy. The studio also confirmed a new game in the series is in the works.

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition is probably one of the worst kept secrets in gaming at the moment, but it's nice to have confirmation.

"For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games," says the blog post. "Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form.

"It's been amazing to see the adventures of Commander Shepard take on new life in super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements. As game developers, we always hope that our games will transcend their original platforms. Having the opportunity to remaster the trilogy means that the fruits of a decade of our work will live on, and will be experienced better and clearer than ever before."

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include single-player content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armours, and packs all optimized for 4k Ultra HD.

It will be available in spring 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with forwarding compatibility and targeted enhancements on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

The next chapter of the Mass Effect universe is also in the early stages, and while Bioware wouldn't say more on it, the studio said it is "looking forward" to sharing information on it in the future.

Mass Effect 2 is one of my favourite games ever. I kinda would love to go through all three again, but then I remember the endless planet driving in ME1 and that horrible hover hovercraft thing.

Wish it was a remake rather than just graphical updates. Not sure I particularly care for doing those elevator sections in Mass Effect 1 again

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will launch on March 12, 2021, according to retail listings from Shopitree in Singapore and GSShop in Indonesia. Those listings were spotted by Idle Sloth on Twitter, and the folks at Eurogamer have corroborated the date with their own sources. The release date is still subject to change prior to the official announcement, but until then, this date is looking pretty solid.

The remaster is, indeed, a remaster – not a remake. That means you shouldn't expect any fundamental gameplay changes, but the games will be optimised for bigger resolutions, higher frame rates, and will receive some other visual enhancements. The package will also include all the single-player DLC originally released for the trilogy.

BioWare promised "more information to come in the new year" on the remastered trilogy, and now that we're in 2021 you should probably expect that official info to come sooner rather than later.

This game died for me when I accidentally got Garus killed. I think he got carried away by a load of flying things and I was proper gutted that it was because I sent him out there.

We finally have a release date for Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

EA has today announced that Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the collection featuring remastered versions of all three mainline Mass Effect games, will be available worldwide on May 14 across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The collection will also be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S through backwards compatibility.

Alongside our first look at the enhanced visuals in today's trailer, EA also revealed a number of key details about what to expect. The Legendary Edition includes all add-ons, that's the weapon and armour packs, as well as story DLCs. All content will support HDR and up to 4K resolutions.

More specifically, you can expect updated character models and lighting, higher-resolution textures and shaders, new visual effects, better shadows, as well as improved volumetrics and depth-of-field. The updates also extend to the pre-rendered cinematics.

The game will offer faster load times on next-gen consoles and PC, cutting down on the legendarily long elevator rides, particularly those found in the first game. PC players will also get to take advantage of 21:9 widescreen support, and native controller support across the board.

Gameplay has also been touched up, particularly in the first Mass Effect. You can expect an updated UI and HUD, smarter AI, and a few other quality of life upgrades to bring it more in line with the sequels. Combat should feel better, too, thanks to modernised aiming and squad controls. And yes, the Mako's handling has been improved.

First, some specifics. The Mass Effect trilogy's Legendary Edition includes 4K support and HDR compatibility, plus 60 FPS on PC and consoles from PS4 Pro/Xbox One Series X forwards. On PC, it adds support for controllers and 21:9 widescreen displays. As expected, all three games and all single-player DLCs are included. There's no multiplayer mode, no additional story elements, and no version (yet) for Nintendo Switch.

Mass Effect 1, by far the most dated-looking of the trilogy, has undergone a particularly extensive rework, with dramatic improvements to some of its environments. The results on planets such as Eden Prime, Ilos and Feros look on first impression far closer to a full remake. ME1 has also seen other tweaks, including fan-requested improvements to the Mako vehicle's often wildly-erratic driving experience, various combat changes and much faster Citadel lifts (thank goodness). Elvis is a thieving prick.

Gameplay changes to ME2 and ME3 sound relatively minimal, though there's a whole list of differences to remove "friction" from ME1. Aim assist adds adhesion to keep you locked onto enemies, while a "zoom snap" will flick your focus onto a target when aiming. Each ME1 gun has been balanced and given an individual feel similar to those found in later games. The Mako has been given a speed boost and updated physics, while the game's hidden loading screens in lifts have been drastically cut down in length. Comparison footage of a ride up to the Citadel's Presidium level lasts just 14 seconds in the Legendary Edition, down from 52 seconds in the original.

That second paragraph tells me they have been listening to the fans!
