The New York Giants are benching quarterback Daniel Jones following their Week 11 bye, and Tommy DeVito will be taking over as the team's starter, coach Brian Daboll confirmed during a news conference.

The move comes after New York's 20-17 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers in Munich on Nov. 10, which dropped the Giants to 2-8. Daboll said after the game that the team would "evaluate" the quarterback position.

"We are making a quarterback switch from Daniel Jones to Tommy DeVito," Daboll said. "After evaluating and watching a lot of tape, that's the reason we are going with Tommy. Drew Lock will be the backup. This was a necessary move for us and I'm looking forward to working with Tommy and he'll be ready to go against Tampa Bay."

With Lock as the backup, this means Jones will be inactive for games as the No. 3 quarterback.

The Giants are 24-44-1 when Jones has started during the quarterback's tenure in New York. He finished the loss to the Panthers with 190 passing yards, two interceptions and a 50.5 passer rating, along with 26 rushing yards and one TD. He called his performance "not good enough."

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone either.

Well this moved quickly. The New York Giants and QB Daniel Jones have mutually agreed to his release, the team announced.

The Browns hold on for the win and I get the feeling the Steelers will be one and done in the playoffs again.

I enjoyed a canny back-and-forth exchange between these two in the snow.
