More details about Resident Evil 8's gameplay, plot, and enemies have been confirmed in the Japanese magazine, Famitsu.

The latest issue of Famitsu magazine has run a feature on the upcoming Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC game, Resident Evil Village.

A key member of the Resident Evil online community, Alex Aniel, has translated the key takeaways from the game's producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano. There are some light spoilers below, so look away now if you want to go into the game as fresh as possible.

 https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1316401144701181953

Via the translated thread, Famitsu confirms Chris Redfield is responsible for bringing Ethan Winters to the titular village Resident Evil 8 is set in. Ethan finds himself here – apparently against his will – after some time has passed.

A sect of cult-like villagers are apparently featured in the game, and employ the use of 'dangerous creatures' to protect them.

There is what appears to be a merchant in a trenchcoat – classic! – that'll sell items to Ethan on his journey through the spooky setting. Ethan's life 'will depend on this character', in some way.

The dangerous, werewolf-like creatures spotted in the recent trailer (below) don't communicate with language, but do apparently have a sort of 'pack mentality' and can wield weapons. Just to make them particularly deadly, then.

Resident Evil 8 is due to launch in 2021 for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. There is currently no word on whether the game will arrive on current-gen consoles.

It appears that a new set of development screenshots have been leaked for Resident Evil 8: Village. These screenshots showcase a monster that will be in the game, and that's no other than the Molded from Resident Evil 7.

These screenshots come from the recent Capcom data leak. In short, they are as legit as they can get. Now whether Capcom decides to make some changes to these recent leaks is anyone's guess.

Resident Evil Village will be using the RE Engine, and promises to elevate the survival horror experience to new heights. Set a few years after Resident Evil 7, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location.

The first-person action in Resident Evil Village begins when players assume the role of a distraught and shattered Ethan. Ethan seeks to uncover the mysterious new horrors that plague a once peaceful village. Throughout this terrifying journey, players will fight for every breath as they face vicious new enemies.

Capcom has released a few new screenshots in addition to a few small details about what fans can expect.

In a recent interview with IGN, producer Peter Fabiano opened up about what gamers can expect when the newest Resident Evil game makes its debut next year. "We're really excited for fans to experience Resident Evil Village when it comes out in 2021. We feel it's an accumulation of all the best elements of Resident Evil games from the past 25 years, with everything fans love about action-infused survival horror plus new surprises. Of course, there are plenty of puzzles to solve and mysteries to unfold.

"We hope fans will enjoy exploring the desolate, snowy village in which Resident Evil Village takes place, where enemies new to the franchise are waiting for them. Players will once again take control of Ethan Winters, experiencing more of the story set in motion in Resident Evil 7 biohazard. New technologies are allowing us to immerse players in the game in ways we couldn't achieve before, in what we hope will be the most pulse-pounding Resident Evil game to date."

While the details are small (we already knew Ethan Winters was front and center), it is nice to learn at least a little bit more about the upcoming game. Additionally, Fabiano shared three new screenshots about Village, showing off werewolf glory and more scenery.

More rumours suggesting that there'll be some multiplayer aspect to the game, with some saying it's a significantly sized element, and not just tacked on fluff. Others reckon it could be a F2P standalone.

Capcom has announced a Resident Evil Showcase that will take place next week, showing off more Resident Evil Village gameplay and more news about the series

Capcom has published a tweet that reveals a new Direct-style video will be released on Thursday, January 21, that will show off the first-ever gameplay of the incoming Resident Evil title.

If you're eager to learn more about what the publisher has planned for the iconic horror series in the coming months and years, you'll be pleased to know that "lots more Resident Evil news" is also on the cards. What that refers to right now, though, remains to be seen.

 https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1349748105906855941

The livestream will start at 2pm PT/ 5pm ET/ 10pm GMT and no indication has been shared about how long it'll last. In a follow-up tweet, Capcom also announced that you can now sign up for a closed beta test to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil on PS4 and Xbox One (and assumedly on next-gen consoles via backwards compatibility).

Doesn't reveal too much but it looks good!

Capcom has today unveiled a tonne of new Resident Evil Village details, as promised. Not only did today's livestream brings us plenty of new gameplay footage, it also came with lots of news.

One of the biggest reveals was that Village will not just be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S as initially announced. The game is also coming to PS4, and Xbox One. As disappointing as the news might be to some, Capcom actually hinted that this may end up being the case when it said before that it's "looking into" bringing the game to last-gen consoles.

Nevertheless, all of Village's various versions will drop on the same date: May 7 – which was also announced today as the worldwide release date.

If you buy the game on PS4, you'll be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free. The situation is similar on Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S, though that instead will be seamlessly managed by Smart Delivery.

Resident Evil Village will be available in standard and digital deluxe, as well as a console-only collector's edition. The digital deluxe includes a number of in-game items and bonuses, like extra safe room music, a Mr. Everywhere bobblehead, a found footage filter for the game, a higher difficulty, a portable save device, and Chris Redfield's pistol.

The console-only collector's edition includes everything in the digital deluxe, as well as Chris Redfield figure, a poster, and an artbook. This edition comes in an ornate box, with the disc in a steelbook cover.

Given that Village is somewhat of a follow-up to Resident Evil 7, you may want to play that if you haven't already. Capcom is hoping to make this even easier with the new complete bundle, which includes Resident Evil 7 as well as a pre-order for Village in the same package.

If you're eager to jump into Resident Evil Village, there's a free demo you can download right now on PS5.

Maiden is a Village demo starring a different character from the main game's protagonist Ethan. The demo has no combat, so you won't be able to try out the new blocking or crafting mechanics we got to see today. Your only objective is to escape the castle dungeon. Maiden includes unique content, similar to Resident Evil 7's Beginning Hour demo.

Though it may be limited, the demo should hopefully show off the visuals, audio, and Village's general atmosphere. It's also, of course, the first time Resident Evil Village will be playable by the public ahead of release, but it won't be the only time.

Capcom is also planning another, different demo, which is going to be available on all platforms sometime this spring.
