According to the news channel here just now, because of the events this morning, prices on gas have gone up by a further thirty-three per cent today. Oil and wheat prices have gone up as well

I don't see any scenario where Russia benefits from this long term, they might capture part of Ukraine but will likely take heavy losses in doing so and face constant trouble from a population who won't just sit and accept invasion or a puppet state.

All these little things add up and we haven't had the full list of sanctions released yet, if the Russian population and more important the Oligarchy in power start to lose more and more quality of life, the screw is getting turned further and further on Putin.

I really don't see what the end goal is, this will cause permanent damage to Russia for little gain.

It's astonishing that Russia, who themselves experienced a mass invasion by the Nazis in the 1940s, is now advocating a mass invasion against Ukraine on the false basis of "de-Nazification".

There also seems to be no logic in why they started the war by the sounds of it. I can see this escalating into a huge situation if the rest of the world does not get this under control ASAP. I cannot see the sanctions stopping it as it seems that Putin has really lost the plot here.

Yesterday a NATO conflict with Russia was never a possibility.

Today? All bets are off and this is now escalating to a point no one would ever believe and we are genuinely at a very bleak point in history if no one steps back imo.

Kyiv is under bombs now :(

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday the alliance was deploying parts of its combat-ready response force and would continue to send weapons to Ukraine, including air defences while saying that Russia was trying to topple the Ukrainian government.

Stoltenberg said that NATO was deploying elements of its rapid response force, which is made up of land, air, maritime and special operations forces, on allied territory.

"We are now deploying the NATO response force for the first time in the context of collective defence," he said.

NATO activating response force worries me, to be honest. It's another step towards escalation.

'Rather grim intelligence briefings today on fears that Russians frustrated by unexpected resistance will unleash thermobaric weapons and indiscriminate shelling on Kyiv in a bid to break through with horrific consequences for civilians. This is grim news if you've followed Russia's military conduct in Syria and its use of these weapons in place like Aleppo. These are not weapons to be used on civilian populated centres. We are looking at war crimes.'

'Thermobaric bombs are known as vacuum bombs. They suck oxygen into the blast and can cause awful internal injuries, especially to the lungs. We have seen this before from Russia, especially in Aleppo, Syria. A taste from Western intelligence officials today: "My fear, I think, is that if that continues to be a scene where they are delayed, Russia uses indiscriminate use of indirect fire, particularly artillery systems, thermobaric weapons, which we know, the Russia has both in its armoury, and has used in previous conflicts. My fear would be that if they don't meet the timescales and objectives that they would, they will be indiscriminate in the use of violence."'

If Putin gets desperate then I think he will have no problem using these kinds of weapons. It does contradict the ceasefire rumours though.

China abstained from the UN Security Council vote. Hardly a vote of confidence in Putin.

China, India, UAE abstain. Only Russia's vote has stopped it passing.
