I was extremely skeptical when this was announced. Just the sheer cost of over 500k shells to be raised independent of any EU funding. I am gladly mistaken. Multiple countries pitched in over 100 million each. I'm glad they stepped up.

Ukraine really needs to be able to hold their lines without heavy losses at this stage and they can't do that.

Sasha suggested Russia's generals were winning because they were prepared to accept huge battlefield casualties, with sometimes hundreds killed and wounded in a single offensive operation. "They send in conscripts to take a machine gun position. All their men are wiped out. But our location is discovered," he said. This could be how the war ends, Ukraine cede lands for NATO membership. Obviously it's up to the Ukrainians but any deal would have to see Ukraine fast tracked into NATO because without NATO membership and just Russian assurances then any deal isn't worth the paper it's written on.

It's probably not an ideal outcome for Ukraine or Russia but you have to be pragmatic and fair doesn't come into it. I'm not saying I would be in favour of it and it isn't unjust but reality trumps everything

I can't understand why we've more or less folded in front of Putin. He must be laughing his knackers off.

Churchill said "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last." He wasn't wrong. The same people who said he wouldn't invade Ukraine are the same ones that think he's going to stop there.

Iran's attack on Israel at the weekend could inadvertently be good for Ukraine.

Seems Mike Johnson is now under major pressure to put the Foreign Aid Bill to the floor next week as it also contains the funding for Israel.

There were a couple of Republican politicians on CNN last night saying it's got to be moved forward.

The House of Representatives has voted in favour of billions of dollars in US military aid for Ukraine, after months of delay.

The measure had vocal opponents in Congress, and it took a fragile bipartisan deal to finally get it through the House.

There were cheers and applause in the House as it passed, with some Representatives waving Ukrainian flags.

The $61bn (£49bn) package passed by 311 votes to 112.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said he wanted to push the measures through, even if it jeopardised his position.

Reacting to Saturday's vote, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: "I am grateful to the United States House of Representatives, both parties, and personally Speaker Mike Johnson for the decision that keeps history on the right track.

"Democracy and freedom will always have global significance and will never fail as long as America helps to protect it.

"The vital US aid bill passed today by the House will keep the war from expanding, save thousands and thousands of lives, and help both of our nations to become stronger.

The bill will now go to the Senate, which is expected to pass it in the next few days before President Joe Biden signs it into law.

More Republicans voted against (112) than for (101). All Democrats that voted were in favour.

Hopefully Ukraine can gain some momentum on the battlefield.
